henrywalker
http://www.bare-metal.com/Experts-Choice-Decal-Film.html i heard about these on another post and i was hoping for any extra info. from what i can tell you get a sheet of paper, put it in your printer and print whatever you want onto it, this can then be used just like GW transfer sheets. i was wondering how possible varous application of this are. for example the dreadknight great sword. to paint it in NMM is difficult. but if i were to print out decals for the blade painted as though NMM that would be much easier and could be made to be very good. however is this possible? another idea i had was on the grey knight's books. a transfer of text could be put on them to make them seem very detailed. thanks for any advice. also any other cool ideas would be great. another idea i had is using decals to make bases. i've seem marble flags and cityscapes simply painted onto bases before and this seems a possible way of doing that Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227961-custom-decals/ Share on other sites

An FYI though making the decals is not as easy as it looks even if you're a computer graphics whiz. Remember that unless you have acces to a printer that prints white to have any element in the decal be white you have to use white paper, and if using an inkjet printer the ink is not opaque. You don't just print and go though even if using a laser printer. You need to seal the image with some form of clear coat. Ive heard of people using one of the Krylon clear sprays and I used some of the Testors decal pray I got on clearence at Wally World, and the link you have recomends a Microscale product to do the sealing. As for your proposed idea's, the sword may or may not work to well mainly because the DIY decals are considerably thicker than the mass produced variety and do not conform as well to the underlying surface. I'd say white paper would be what you'd need to use. That being said with practice and the correct solvents it's most likely possible to do what you want to, I just don;t know if it would be any quicker than painting though. The book thing does work, I have done it for shrouds and scrolls black ink on clear paper. The major thing here is how finea resolution your printer prints at if you want to keep it legible. the base idea would work as well.
