ETC 6 Nations

Echoing B-C Lucius' post in the BA section:

I am to take part in a two day tourney this weekend as Part of the Barbarian Team which will take Frances place as all they tend to do these days is
and surrender.

So the Nations taking part are the 8-man teams that WILL be going to the ETC from:

Republic of Ireland

Northern Ireland

Wales

Scotland

England

Gallowglasses/Barbarian Team

The list that I will be taking to the tourney is:

Terrible. To be frank.

No longer will I hear about other Wolf player's successes and make drunken boasts about being able to do better than them. A buddy (that isn't a Wolf player by trade) was in California on a work assignment and ended up playing at a tourney out there, winning by stomping all over people with an army made up on-the-fly as he'd left his at home consisting 4 Wolf Lords, some TWC and 2 units of Grey Hunters that cowered in Rhinos.

I reckoned that I'd be able to smash face with a similar list at 1750 and figured that the 6 Nations would be as good a place as any to try to things out. The 6 Nations is a small-scale even that is played out to get some practice before the event proper in August: the European Team Championship.

So with the newly-released 'unique' missions available to us (3 weeks after we send it our army lists...) I figured I'd give the silly TWC list a go.

I've gone for:

HQ

1:Wolf Lord (100) Thunder Hammer (30) Storm Shield (30) Saga of the Bear (35) Runic Armour (20) Thunderwolf Mount (45) [260]

2:Wolf Lord (100) Wolf Claw (20) Storm Shield (30) Runic Armour (20) Thunderwolf Mount (45) [215]

3:Wolf Lord (100) Frost Axe (25) Storm Shield (30) Saga of the Warrior Born (35) Runic Armour (20) Thunderwolf Mount (45) [255]

4:Wolfguard Battle Leader (70) Power Fist (25) Storm Shield (30) Thunderwolf Mount (45) [170]

Elite

1: Wolf Guard

3 Wolf guard (54) Power Fist (75) Combi-Melta (15)

1 Wolf guard (18) Combi-Plasma (5)

[152]

Troop 1: 5 Grey Hunters (75) Meltagun (5) Wolf Banner (10) [90] in Transport 1

Troop 2: 5 Grey Hunters (75) Meltagun (5) Wolf Banner (10) [90] in Transport 2

Troop 3: 5 Grey Hunters (75) Meltagun (5) Wolf Banner (10) [90] in Transport 3

Troop 4: 5 Grey Hunters (75) Plasmagun (10) [85] in Transport 4

Fast 1: 11 Fenris Wolves (88) [88]

Heavy 1: 5 Long Fangs (100) 4 Rockets (40) [140]

Transport 1: Rhino [35]

Transport 2: Rhino [35]

Transport 3: Rhino [35]

Transport 4: Rhino [35]

[1750]

This really needs some explaining. I've already said that I don't rate TWC at all and then one of the other lads on the team goes and does that. Being a boastful Wolf Lord I figured I'd have to try something similar to see how I'd get on, despite the fact I really don't think they're that good. I don't believe that regular TWC with their 3+ saves will last as long as the HQs hiding in a big unit of Wolves that can use their pets to soak up shooting before being loosed at anything that strays too close or charging in en masse.

There's also the free re-roll granted to the Lords as long one of the Wolves is alive instead of requiring the Saga of Majesty which frees up points and a Saga slot so I can throw in Warrior Born for tearing through Infantry and either eating up small squads (I'm thinking scoring MEQ) in one go or allowing me to sit in amongst Hordes and not get shot.

That explains the 4 TWC HQs. The Troops are needed to grab objectives and the Long Fangs are there predominantly as bait. If they take something out before they get shot then great - if not I'm not too pushed about losing them. I have missed them in my games so far but the Lords are fairly flexible and able to pick up the slack. I've managed to smash tanks up fine with a single squad and the Lords so far.

The reason it isn't more rounded with anti-psyker shenanigans is because of the pairing system: its up to the captains to select the match-ups and as long as I avoid heavy-psyker armies or powers that will maul my big Wolfblob (Lash/Weaken Resolve) I'll do fine as long as I plough headlong into the enemy.

I've got the WGBL and 2 TWC bases to do before the army is complete but after that I'm sorted.

All I have to do is get some more practice in as I'm likely to face the other Wolf players (I know that Ragnars Claw will be there as England's Captain, as will Scáth and Brother-Captain Lucius for the Barbars). I'll be throwing updates on my blog after each round for anyone that's interested.

Wish me luck.

Its sure to be an interesting weekend, how many rules lawyers can you fit into the same room!? :P

I just want to see the Ba-bar's Ork player live up to his statement of being able to out leaf-blower the leaf-blower lists with his 45 lootas... as long as he gets to start turn 1! xD

We'll see how that goes - he'll probably be throwing himself at the Guard players for the weekend so. Ivan will be heckling him from a corner after taking the weekend off and being dropped last minute.

I'm looking forward to this. We've got the match ups for them sorted already. Now we just have to grind out the games before hitting the pub on Saturday. Nice.

I'm coming for you Scáth. Round 2. Your ass is mine.
