ron
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_-HZLorI1B0w/TS5cTXa0JbI/AAAAAAAAMvM/KJQoaRzF3HU/s400/glowing%20powerfist%20final%20steps.jpg I was cruising through another post and found someone who mentioned looking for some insight on OSL and figured this might help some folks out. It came about in the blogging world as a way for some of us to work through how to understand and recreate OSL effects on models. The original example followed a powerfist through the process, but the ideas are universal and can be applied to anything "glowing." It's a three part series that I have posted on my blog. Instead of trying to repost the whole thing here, I figured I'd share the links to the articles. You can start at the first part and follow through the series as each article leads to the next as well. Part 1: Painting the object that is glowing Part 2: Understanding the radiant light Part 3: Applying radiant light to your model Good luck and I hope you guys enjoy the series. ron
It's a ton of material, but I tried to break it down in manageable chunks for people to work through. zyl-
Ok, I tried this out, and here are some of the results I got. Please feel free to let me know what you think here, because no one I know feels as if they are good enough to criticize my work.. or they totally don't care. First off, I think I got this one good, but since there is no luminence effect it was easy. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u75/bloodlife72/IMG_1322_zps45caae7a.jpg This mace is on a completed model, and the effects are done. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u75/bloodlife72/IMG_1317_zpsb700161c.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u75/bloodlife72/IMG_1315_zps0f23124d.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u75/bloodlife72/IMG_1323_zpsf63f9fb8.jpg Lastly, here is a model where the effects are cast off onto the rest of the model. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u75/bloodlife72/IMG_1328_zps10476751.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u75/bloodlife72/IMG_1327_zps8b51410d.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u75/bloodlife72/IMG_1326_zps49a73996.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228022-a-study-in-object-source-lighting/#findComment-3368029 Share on other sites
miniaturepainter
Looks good zyl, Ron isn't around atm, I'd to see your power glows from a distance. Those extreme closeups just show that you have the techniques down. Hopefully see them soon :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228022-a-study-in-object-source-lighting/#findComment-3368116 Share on other sites
