Dhx711
So I'm in the process of repainting an old bike squad that I completely slathered in paint the first time around. The plastic pieces all cleaned up nicely but both the sgt and melta carrying biker are metal and it's been a pain trying to get them clean. I've soaked them in both a Simple Green kinda product (couldnt find the real version) and Nail Polish remover and have been attacking them savagely with a pistol bore bush to get them clean. It's working but at the rate it's working it wil take a year to get clean. In my fustration I thought of using a lighter the melt the paint off but before I put them to the flame I wanted to check in on what everyone thought. Has anyone tried this before? Olis
I haven't tried (mainly because it's seems like it's a bad idea) but then I'm not sure of the melting point of white metal alloy... :cuss Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228033-purging-the-unclean/#findComment-2732107 Share on other sites
Hemal
Its low - think hot over low - I melted some white metal ships at roughly 150 centigrade (Man O'War Monitors - I was trying to loosen really old superglue...). I would heartily recommend NOT doing this- not such what the combustion products of acrylic paint are, but I am sure that most plastics let off some pretty nasty chemicals when burnt. Use paint stripper or SIple green/Dettol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228033-purging-the-unclean/#findComment-2732159 Share on other sites
Dremen
It doesnt work effectivly... I have a... uh friend...yea thats it, a friend who tried and melted my, his chaplain. The pewter has a really low melting point, and even if it straight up doesnt melt itll warp. SHame to, I really liked that model....of my friends... Damn, sorry to hear about your "friend's" loss man. Guess it's back to the savage bore brush action. chromedog
If they're metals, sit them in acetone for a while. WEAR GLOVES. Remove and scrub them (old toothbrushes work well), then repeat until clean. Wash in clean water. Allow to dry. Any remaining acetone will evaporate readily, assisting the water to evaporate as well. Tanhausen
If you can snap the metal torso, just dump it in acetone as suggested. An alternative is rubbing alcohol and 24h bath...scrubbing away will be easier :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228033-purging-the-unclean/#findComment-2732687 Share on other sites
