Jonny Roxtar
Over the years I have had an off and on relationship with this hobby/game/moneypit that we call 40k. Several times I have tried and given up on the Space Wolves for a variety of reasons. The first marines I ever painted were space wolves, true story. Unfortunately every other space marine army at the time where I lived was a space wolf army too. So for variety I tried Salamanders and stuck with them for many years. For all their differences , I still view Sallies and the Wolves as the 2 chapters you can rely on if youre a human in the grim dark future. Thats why I like them both. So with a bucket load of terminators to start me off and some tacticals ready to build, this is my last shot at having a SW army of my very own. I usually dont do armies to a set list. I buy what I like the look of then make a list with it, see what works and add stuff when it fails. There are of course no brainer selections like long fangs and grey hunters, and I`ll get to those eventually, but right here right now all I have are 16 terminators and a box of grey hunters/bloodclaws. Njall and Logan are counted in with those Termies. No I have in another thread previewed the first version of my take on Logan Grimnar. So a Quick pic to remind us of that. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/Deusmex/Space%20Wolves/loganwip3.jpg He is in bits as I type, I removed the hand and replaced it with a pointing hand, cut off the axe head and shortened it added an extra bit of wolf pelt...err thats about it. I did some greenstuff....stuff and Im waiting on it curing. While I was waiting I got out the terminators I had base coated and did some painting. Yes its been a while since I painted. In that time my eyesight has deteriorated . Im longsighted and I cant really see the details on models any more without some help. So today was my first time painting with a magnifier lamp. Its an interesting sensation to say the least, but it didnt take long to get used to it. Oh and a new blog meant a new background pic. I figured an angry dwarf was acceptable. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/Deusmex/Space%20Wolves/DSCF2877.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/Deusmex/Space%20Wolves/DSCF2879.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/Deusmex/Space%20Wolves/DSCF2878.jpg lastly an old test shot of the power armour guys http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/Deusmex/Space%20Wolves/DSCF2664light.jpg The initial goal is to hit 2000 points. At which point if Im not sick of the sight of grey I will finish the other projects I have left unfinished( I have a few) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228151-last-chance-at-making-a-space-wolf-army/ Share on other sites
the Fell Hand
I think your Logan looks awesome! One note though, his beard is sticking straight out but "wind" is blowing his cape back pretty hard. Can you soften and bend the beard back to flow with the cape? And your painting looks good too! Nice job Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228151-last-chance-at-making-a-space-wolf-army/#findComment-2733883 Share on other sites

Marshal Wilhelm
Yes its been a while since I painted. In that time my eyesight has deteriorated . Im longsighted and I cant really see the details on models any more without some help. So today was my first time painting with a magnifier lamp. Its an interesting sensation to say the least, but it didnt take long to get used to it. My eyesight is not very good for miniature painting. I use a 100W light bulb and light from another source, so shadows and missed spots don't obscure or hide detail. My brother bought a magnifier lamp and as you say, somewhat counter intuitive. I bought a set of 3x magnifying glasses from the chemist/pharmacist for $20ish, which have helped no end. +++ To shape Logan's beard, you can use a heat gun or haor dryer. use your fingers as a thermostat - if it is too hot for them, it is too hot for the plastic :P +++ These look good B) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228151-last-chance-at-making-a-space-wolf-army/#findComment-2734158 Share on other sites
Jonny Roxtar
Thanks guys for the encouragement. The greenstuff...stuff Ive been working on is semi successful. 3 out the 5 pieces I did are usable although none for the original purpose, ie for Logan. Ive set them aside for now as theyre a bit big, so maybe they`ll reappear on a dreadnought in the near future. No update pics as of now as I was obliged to go out and get drunk last night at my sisters engagement party. So I have a stinking hangover right now. Maybe later I`ll post some updates. Cheers. Getting drunk is acceptable Wolf behaviour right? burningblades20
Nice Logan conversion and painting on your models and getting drunk is very appropriate Space Wolf behavior they throw a feast and get drunk after a successful completion of campaign if I remember correctly just to celebrate their victory and I can't remember the other reason or reasons they did it if there was any.
