Stupid Dark Eldar

I will play any army out there and graciously loose, even leaf blower guard. Dont get me wrong i still hate playing leaf blower, but what ever they either beat me or they dont. Dark elder however never cease to piss me off. I cant roll to hit the broad side of a barn to begin with, so thats where the frustration starts, but i cant believe how ridiculously hard it is to stop a damn raider. I dont know what it is but i roll to hit about average, i roll to pen above average, when it comes time to roll the damage chart im consistently rolling to low to be of any value. It is demoralizing, frustrating, and leaves me down right dubious, i stare at my dice in disbelief as i watch my entire strategy go out the window cause i cant crack a damn open topped vehicle. Which results in losing my position and a unit, which gives him an un-needed boost in his numbers.

Bad dicing can trump being a good general.

I play Blood Bowl online, and my brothers laugh with me at how my foes consistently roll high and I low. We see their mistakes, yet it doesn't catch them out, because they then roll well. This isn't just a one or two game thing, but fairly consistent over 60+ games.

My new saying is [usually about me] "you got diced".

It is just something you have to wear, if you want to play dice games. We need the dice to add in a fun factor that you don't get from Chess, but unfortunately we don't get an even spread of results, which leads to dudes getting stooged by Deldar in Raiders..... it is just how these things roll.

If you showed us your army layout, we might be able to see if we can tighten the screws on your list, which will help offset the dice.

:jaw:

I agree- time for new dice.

Almost all of mine are gifts, and despite what the scientific part of my mind says, theyre just lucky.

Oddly enough, Ive found ones attitude changes how they roll. Yeah yeah, experiential bias.... but seriously, a friend of mine has horrible luck- unless hes had a glass or two of decent alchohol, in wich case hes got the rolls he needs when he needs. Myself, if Im feeling like crap I tend to roll like crap... just one of those things.

No wonder those Wolf tails dispel magic <_<

*shakes head*

Fortune is a fickle mistress who demands tribute..... I have sacrificed many dice to that BIIII....EEEAUTIFUL wonderful lass and she still rejects my offerings.

The only rolls that fortune seems to bless me on happens to be Njal... Living Lightning... oooh that will be six shots. Close combat he tends to chew through entire units leaving his body guard to sit there and soak up shots. The other good luck I have is with my Mark of the Wulfen Hunters and Blood Claws. My Claws are usually reduced to less than half, but then they go on a rampage and wipe out half the army... I just don't freaking get it. I just recently had my striker squad 9 Hunters with a Wolf Guard get blown apart... last man standing is the Wulfen... He goes ballistic charges into a Tactical Squad of 'nilla Marines and 7 attacks later the Tac is run down and slaughtered. Then he survives the firing squad ( 10 Man Devastator Squad) and leaves them for compost as well...

well maybe it is a case of runing of too few of weapon Z,Y, X. when you run lets say 6-8 long range support weapon , then the chance chance of doing or not doing something gets realy random . Same if you try to do stuff like run melta/flamer squads and hope that a single melta gun[which has a 33% chance not to hit] will do the anti tank .

Good list are build around the concept of minimizing the random effect of the rolls , that of course doesnt mean you cant get unlucky , but it realy shouldnt happen a lot .

I have the same problem when my Black Dragons/Wolves/Blood Angels/Grey Knights are fighting Tau... can roll to hit and pen like a champ, consistently roll 1s for damage... and its only against Tau. Roll like a champ for everything else, but cant blow up a Tau vehicle.

Man I relate to this - there seems to be some magic out there that reads your mood and then matches up your dice rolls.

My main two variants seem to be storm shields, which when I'm in a good mood and holding a beer seem to come as 3+ all the time (record still 34 successful saves in a row on a battle leader!) and when I'm not the dreaded 2s appear, and then vehicle damage tables, where I consistently roll 2s or 6s. Played two games this week and have only rolled a single result other than 2 or 6 on the damage table out of about 15... and that was a glancing 4, making it a 2 in game terms. On Thursday, having rolled 5 2s in a row for penetrating hits against a storm raven, I then rolled a six and killed a Grey knight terminator in the blast, who then failed their leadership 10 pinning test... Moral being, it evens out eventually!

As others have said, sometimes the dice can destroy even the most perfect of strategys... Sometimes your the bug, and sometimes the windshield!

Where I live you can't take beer into the game stores.... something about open container within 100 feet of a liquor store.

There is a theory that negative events have twice the emotional impact upon us than equal positive ones, so losing £5 makes you feel as bad as finding £10 makes you feel good.

Translating this to dice luck, rolling 50/50 will feel like you are losing, because the fails hurt more than the passes. It's all in your head, so try to reverse the effect by really celebrating your good rolls, and shrugging off your bad.

If I feel I'm rolling badly, I do a quick mathhammer in my head: (Apologies for 'Nids, they use more dice, so are a better example)

My 20 Devilgaunts shoot your marines, should be 60 shots,30 hits, 15 wounds, 3 dead. They got 4! Yay! Dance, sing, gloat etc.

Then my rending 'Stealers see more ones than a Necron's letter to his Mum. Gaarrgghh! Oh well, The Gaunts get to sit in the front on the way home.

Just out of interest, you say you're having trouble shooting down Raiders? You're right, they should go down quite easily, have you checked you're doing it right? Go over the rules for vehicles, making sure you aren't missing anything: Open-topped gets +1 on the damage table; 10/10/10 can be glanced by S4; Immobilised and Weapon Destroyed results stack and combine until they're all gone, then become Wrecked; Flat-Out Skimmers are wrecked on an Immobilised score; check the DE codex to ensure you're buddy isn't abusing his upgrades etc.

Not in stores - This is at gaming clubs or players houses (often my own)... The beer helps the true Space Wolf emerge
