Mk.III Iron Armour Tactical Squad

Well folks, I've started laying down paint on the Mk. III's. I decided to a bit of a test first on the sarge to see how my ideas worked and I'm liking what I've done so far. I need to build up the highlights next before starting any of the detail work.

Here's the pics:

Any C&C is more than welcome.

Looking good so far! Keep it up bud! :)

Thanks - I fully intend to as I've got another 9 to go and am looking at getting one of the assault squads too and building a Mk. I Rhino..............

Fantastic so far!

Tell you what mate, that Bolter magazine holder is awesome.

Thanks! I managed to get hold of some Rogue Trader era bits and took press moldings from them using instant mold. It means I can keep the originals for future use.

They're looking really nice so far mate, great use of RT era bits as well! :(

Compliments from the legendary Doghouse - I am indeed honoured!

Glad everyone likes them (or should that be him) - I'll get some more WIP pics up later on tonight.

I've done some more work on the Sarge and experimented a little with weathering powders. The overall effect makes him look like he's been trudging through a dusty ruined city.

There's still some work to be done. Need to finish off the metallics, re-highlight the right pauldron and a final watered down wash across the armour. Just noticed a couple of little touch ups as well...........

Right, it's time to stop painting for tonight - I'm starting to see multiple Mk. III sargents in front of me.

Any C&C is more than welcome.

I really liked the red effect you painted, I wish you left more of it visible in the end product. How exactly did you go about painting it?
That looks great, can I ask for the recipie for your red? I'm looking for a slightly darker tone to add some Angels Encarmine to my army and that seems perfect.

The recipe for the red is as follows: Undercoat white. I use Army Painter white spray.

Base coat Vallejo Fiery Orange with a light drybrush of Sunburst Yellow. Then about 3 coats of Baal Red Wash followed by one of Gryphonne Sepia and then just simply highlight as you see fit.

When are you going to stick the backpacks on?

Once I've finished it - I sort of forgot about it when painting the main model :)

Nice squad you have there man!

Where did u find this Heresy-era plasmagun?

he mentioned in his first post, that the missile launcher and plasma guns are from rogue trader, if i'm not mistaken.

As mentioned above ^^ they are a RT-era plasma gun and missile launcher which makes them nearly as old as me ;)

I managed to get hold of 2 plasma guns and intend to make a mold of one for future use.

The weathering on the legs of the Sergeant look a bit on the extreme side, unless he was wading in knee deep (For a Space marine, so 3-4 feet) drifts of ashes for most of this campaign he's on at the time of his being put on a base.

That's the only gripe I can think of, paintjob so far looks pretty good.

Thats exactly the look I wanted - as if he's making his way through a ruined city where there has been lots of heavy fighting and many of the buildings have been turned to dust and rubble. If you imagine thick, cloying, clay-like dust covering what once was the roadways, pavements, parks of the city thats the setting I imagine for the sargent and his squad.
