Battle of the Fang

Recommended Posts

haha I'm just going with gut instincts and the mention of this in Mav's thread....

As most of you already know, I name my models after certain users here at the Fang. It helps represent the brotherhood all the better! This way, I get to bring my wolf brothers with me and share in all the glory, from the highs, to the lows from fighting on the battlefield. This model is my honorary model for Chris Wraight. It's my own special way of welcoming him amongst the sons of Russ here at the Fang, and at B&C. We look forward to your book! and thank you for representing our chapter in your telling of The Battle of the Fang.

Ah - I'm honoured! That is a very, very cool model, and captures the Wolves perfectly.

Now I'm thinking... future characters... powermace... hmm...

*crosses fingers* and hopes for another Space Wolf story

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I still wanted to give my £0.02.

For me, this is probably one of the two best 40k novels I've read (Titanicus being the other one), and I think it provides an excellent bridge between the Ragnar novels (Which I genuinely enjoyed) and Dan Abnett's reinterpretation of our beloved chapter (Which I'm quite ambivalent about)...

Loved the novel and I agree with old man Bjorn that "repairing" the geneseed of the sons of Russ is no way to go.

War within...war without. The wolves acknowledge their flaws and pitfalls and fight to conquer them. That is the true path to overcoming chaos.

Reminds me of RL stories of sheltered kids who get a taste of freedom and turn into wild party animal drug crazed burnouts. You have to look the beast in the eye and beat it down...you can't remove the threat of facing the beast and call yourself a victor.

It makes me wonder what Temekh will play in future stories. He appears in the novel, get's a decent amount of character development, and then just............leaves. He doesn't die, he doesn't mutate. He doesn't even fight the Wolves. He just sits in orbit and leaves when Magnus tell him to. It just seems odd that he got as much screentime as the rest of the Thousand Sons when he did so little. I'm wondering if he is going to appear in future stories, as Wraight seems to be setting him up for something, because otherwise you don't give so much time to a character that did so little.

Well he needed all that time to summon Magnus which did not seem like a simple thing to do. So I guess he got that much screentime so you would see that bringing a Daemon Primarch back into reality is no small feat, as well as explaining Magnus being in two places at once.

True, but I think we may see him again.

He will return as Madox the thrice cursed

welcome back brother! have an ale on me while you explain why you think this since after being away from the fang for this long you must be craving for some ale!

I thought it was utter crap. Sorry, but modern GW changes to the background really isn't doing it for me - especially after rereading the original text describing the event.

Badly written and the new ideas introduced are rubbish. AVOID.

 Wow, I'd really like to know the details behind this venom. I'm half thinking your commentary is a deliberate joke. If not, please elaborate why you despise this book so much.

Despise is a strong word, but I really think its poor book. I know that most won't agree - fair enough.

I've had this thread on my do not read list for awhile since I'm broke and what little money I had went into models. But my buddy surprised me with a copy of the book. Amazing. Better than the Ragnar books. I can easily visualize much of it as a mini movie in my head while reading it, the story has awesome dynamism. I will now return to ignoring this thread until I'm done.

I just finished this one. I couldn't put it down and read it faster than any other 40k novel, even the first 3 HH books.

I had a luke warm reception to prospero Burns but this book really bridges the gap and cements the rejuvenated background created there.

At first I felt kind of taken back by the amount of characters being introduced and wondered just how many he was going to throw at us. But it all works and gels perfectly into one of, if not the, best novel we have. Reading it my Battle of the Fang history was hazy so actually couldn't figure out who was going to survive besides Bjorn. Kinda sad when Greyloc goes, but he does go in style

.

I just love Blackwing, despite the presence of the mighty heroes he gets some of the best lines for me. Having just started using wolf scouts it just made me love them even more. I feel a conversion coming on. :)

You guys fee inspired to model up any of the characters?

I really enjoyed it.

Chris has gone a long way in meshing the Space Wolves of Pre-Heresy with modern wolves.

The idea that as the Wolves went on they became more 'civilized' is a cool one, adopting the wolf as a totem or spirit animal. For instance Abnett's characters dont have the adjective-noun names, so Chris gave the character traditional norse names, and tacked on the adjective-noun names as a nickname. The leather masks were a holdover from the tribal nature of the legion, etc. All in all very cool.

Didnt like the Kaerls though, although it goes a long way in justifying my Templar Men-at-arms theory. I guess I just didnt like the wanna-be space marine girl.

The descriptions of the fang were awesome, as were the siege and battle scenes. He really got the sense of scale down. In 40K no matter how big the fortress is since armies are fairly small the scaling is better.

Also, bombarding the shields so that the wolves couldnt return fire... very nice :)

It gives a depth to the chapter that few others have later in their histories.

If we could have the Scout dedicated transport speeder, it would be done up blacked out and with some Thunderhawk engines turbines converted to be mounted on it. Hahahahahah!

I'm planning on the Wolf Lord Greloc :woot:

Yes, yes... I know 2 WC isn't the best wargear for a wolf lord but it's epic badass anyway.

A quick question...

I'm struggling on what pose i should give him. A comtemplative, sage like calmness? Or the white hot fury that all Vlka Fenryka have? Greyloc's a visionary, so I'm leading towards the first, and yet it's cooler to give him an agressive pose...

What do you guys think? Which demeanour does he give you?

Oh and hey i'm a new guy here, hail to all the seasoned veterans of the Vlka Fenryka!

Probably. Or maybe a combat ready pose at the very least.... What comes to mind is Space Hulk LC termie pose, much like what brother taffen did to his Greyloc model. It also reminds me of the part where greyloc was addressing all the personal, from thralls to rivenmasters, of the Fang, where at the final part his rouse the whole crowd, lifting his WC in union as the claws burst into life....

Perhaps, in my mind, the most iconic scene of greyloc in the book... besides him and his retinue ripping the archenemy apart.
