Ablative henchmen for foot slogging GK?

Just an idea floating around my head I thought I'd share.

Does anyone think there is much mileage in the idea of running a squad (or maybe 2) of basic or bolter henchmen infront of a librarian buffed force of foot slogers? 3+ cover for the folks behind until they get flayed away, at which point they will have surved their purpose (thinking penal legion or something) and the GK are either close enough to hurt, or in midfield cover. They are only really there to protect you from long ranged shooting in early turns, so the fact they will evaporate once you get within 24" or less has to be balanced/weighed against this.

60 or so pts to muffle long range low Ap shooting seems handy but I'm not convinced its necessarily worth it, or does enough to make slogging your GK up the table more viable. What do people think?

Heck, look at it like this.

Coteaz =100pts

6x12 mand Warrior Acolytes squads= 288 pts for 72 models w/LasPistol/CCW/Flak

Lots of cover. For fluff purposes its a mob of Imperial Cultists whipped up into a frenzy. Just charge them headlong into the enemy. They should tie stuff up long enough to get heavy hitters into finish up.

You know thinking about it, you can really almost a field full list of pure GK on the table, minus one squad (thats about 288pts) and have 72 ablative decoys you don't even care about. I think this is a great idea and a potential tourny winner.

If they are mobile cover why give them bolters?

Bolters are an expensive resource, (wo)men of the imperium are not. (though if they lose the bolter when they die you could charge the cost to their next of kin :huh: )

The only probelm with this is that you have used up both HQs with a libby and an =][= (or Coteaz if you want multiple shields).

If you run the libby close enough to the human shield they gain a 6+ cover save and last a bit longer. :whistling:
