barcelonablom
I was going to post this in reply to my original thread: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...=101643&hl= But its so old I cannot even resurrect it like so: http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f208/DonRSD/rise_from_your_grave.png Regardless I guess this can be my WIP/Painting/Done/Questions/Tips thread for my DIY Chapter I created those many moons ago. I will probably be posting the fluff side in the Index and my Army list as I have it and what I try to typically run for opinions/comments soon. As for the name: http://www.palba.cz/forumfoto/albums/userpics/12033/normal_VMFA314.png VMFA-314 was my first "home" in the Marine Corps and so far the best command I had the honor of serving with (Sharpshooters and currently The Bats). Back when I was looking for a chapter idea in '07 my roomie suggested I use our squadron logo as inspiration. So I ran with it. Holy Terra! I can't believe this thread is still lost in the Warp out here... Amazing... Soooo.. I do thank those guys from years ago who helped me out but I found myself tied up in other hobbies and to be honest, I never gamed 40k once in the time period I was stationed in San Diego... Bad on me really. I did do models here and there and worked this and that and eventually had the remains of my Space Wolves and Imperial Guard armies sent to me (I lost A LOT of models in a tragic bookshelf collapse in Boot Camp). Years later I find myself in Iwakuni, Japan. Still in the Marines, and now... actively gaming. We have a gaming club out here (Praise be to the Emperor!) and I've gotten back into the hobby at full swing. My little scouts and Combat Squad have evolved into: A Captain and Command Squad (6) 1x Tactical Squad (10) 1x Devastator Squad (5) 1x Scout Squad (5) 1x Assault Squad (5) 1x Terminator Squad (5) 1x Venerable Dreadnought (Old SW Ven Dread... "Bjorn") 1x Dreadnought (MM+DCCW/SB) 1x Land Raider (needs track pieces but its intact) To be soon expanded upon with: 1x Assault Terminator Squad (5) 1x Devastator Squad (9, I have enough bits to make use of the extra weapons in the plastic kit so I should be able to field at least two of each weapon, 3 in some cases, 4 Plasma Cannons, this will become my "Heavy Weapons Pool) 2x Drop Pods 1x Razorback (LC+TLPG) 1x Predator (Magnetized for full options) 1x Rhino 1x Tactical Squad (10, after the devastators I hope to have enough SW MArine bitz to throw together another tactical squad) All the latter list I own and is awaiting painting/conversion/assembly. I have many many many pictures to share and will be doing so soon but I'm on duty and my shift is about to come up. I plan to post up here after about 6 hours. But dang it feels good to be modelling again. I also plan on attacking some new techniques I haven't tried before. I want to give pastels (cuz they're cheap) or pigments (expensive but apparently more "pure") to try and do weathering. I come from a 1/35 WW2/modern AFV background and if your tank ain't dirty, it hasn't been fighting. So I plan on playing with dust and mud at least. Rust seems a bit far fetched since the Marines treat their equipment so well. So I'll probably follow my journeys of trying my hand at those new things. Also in the pipeline is learning to use greenstuff> I have the old 3rd Ed Captain that came as a bonus in the boxed set and I plan on making him a Librarian but I think I have to putty his psychic hood. Should be interesting. And general greenstuffing/sculpting for other thisses and thats. Pictures to follow when I'm free for a moment. barcelonablom
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb48/gi-rene/Warhammer%20Models/DSC02095.jpg The Original 5 + another 5 from AoBR to flesh out my tactical squad. This was before I really developed the look I wanted so I went waaay to heavy on the drybrushing, which can work. I'm not a fan of the "pencil highlights" looks too "cartoony" rather than gritty for my tastes. I finally found the effect I wanted when I did my Terminators and perfected on my Assault Marines. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb48/gi-rene/Warhammer%20Models/DSC02078.jpg Another shot. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb48/gi-rene/Warhammer%20Models/DSC02082.jpg My next project was to repaint my Long Fangs. I kept things pretty much the same and reused the helmet tassel. As you can see from the logo it fits the motif well. My pride and joy on these guys are the heavy weapons' hoses more than anything... http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb48/gi-rene/Warhammer%20Models/DSC02091.jpg Lascannon Dev. As you can tell my free-hand stinks. This is simply Scab red, drybrushed blood red, and drybrushed blood red with white. And a thick black wash. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb48/gi-rene/Warhammer%20Models/DSC02090.jpg MM Dev. I know the colors seem odd but dang, it looks good. And is really kinda an homage to the Ghostbusters! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228408-the-black-knights/#findComment-2737375 Share on other sites
barcelonablom
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb48/gi-rene/Warhammer%20Models/DSC00329.jpg My first long "project". This one catches some more die-hard Space Marine players aloof. Not all are fans of the anti-Codex no camo thing. But for scouts, I'm rolling with it. And to be honest, it looks pretty good. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb48/gi-rene/Warhammer%20Models/DSC00330.jpg [L to R]Tigerstripe, WW1 Helmet Dazzle, WW2 Tan and Water, MARPAT Fatigues, German Ambush Scheme. Often I get "Oh sweet lookin' Imperial Guard!" http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb48/gi-rene/Warhammer%20Models/DSC02074.jpg Next was repainting the SW Ven Dread manual to fit. It has some obviously still SW stuff but I just roll with it. My joke to the SW player is that we got the Dread drunk and convinced it it was a Black Knight and thusly he is in my Army. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb48/gi-rene/Warhammer%20Models/DSC02075.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228408-the-black-knights/#findComment-2737384 Share on other sites
barcelonablom
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb48/gi-rene/Warhammer%20Models/DSC02123.jpg My Command Squad-Detailed shots of each can be offered. My Captain was not finished, not that it matters, I changed him since these photos were taken, so even if I had taken a photo it wouldn't be accurate. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb48/gi-rene/Warhammer%20Models/DSC02119.jpg The banner... Lots of drybrushing... And I'm content with the results but wish I could free-hand better... "Once a Knight is never enough" in poorly translated Latin. I need to take photos of my Captain and Terminators but those were accomplished next, I'll placeholder them until I get something done. My Captain has a really uh... ghetto Relic Blade but I'm looking to convert him up with a GK blade and slicing off the wrist mounted bolter and affixing his Storm shield to it. My latest project are my Assault Marines: http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/207890_10150165817982492_534682491_6670626_7935919_n.jpg http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/207461_10150165818437492_534682491_6670629_7941948_n.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228408-the-black-knights/#findComment-2737390 Share on other sites
