veidin
Long post I know, it's my first battle report so bare with me. :D I've been practicing as much as possible with my tournament force and this was my second game. First game I played was against Necrons who I phased out. The Nid player is a good friend of mine. Here is what he fielded. hq Hive Tyrant, Venom Cannon, Bonesword & Lash whip, Hive Commander, Psychic Scream, Leach Essence elite 3 Hive Guard elites 3 Zoanthropes support Tyrgon Prime, Toxin Sacs support Carnifex, Crushing Claws, scything talons, Bio-Plasma fast atk 5 Ravaners, Deathspitters fast atk 3 shrikes, all boneswords, scything talons, toxin sacs troops 12 termagaunts, devourers troops 3 warriors, 2 deathspitters, 1 venom cannon, scything talons troops 8 Genestealers, Toxin & Scything Talons, Broodlord, scything talons elite Lictor Myself, I run this list as my 1850 force: hq Crowe hq Librarian, rift, shroud, quicksilver, titan elite Vindicare elite Techmarine, storm bolter, rad nades troops 5 purifiers hammer, 2 halberds, 2 psycannons troops 5 purifiers hammer, 2 halberds, 2 psycannons troops 5 purifiers hammer, 2 halberds, 2 psycannons troops 5 purifiers hammer, 2 halberds, 2 psycannons dedicated transports 3 Razorbacks, psybolt ammo heavy 1 Land Raider Crusader, Melta, light heavy 2 Psyflemen Dreads Game was Pitched Battle, Capture and Control. We did kill points as a secondary objective. Nids elected to go first and deployed all but the Lictor, Genestealers, Raveners, Trygon Prime, and Termagaunts. Grey Knights deployed their full force in the backfield with the Land Raider wedged between two ruins blocking LOS on the Razorbacks. Seize for Initiative failed Nids went first. TURN 1: Deathspitter/venom cannon Warriors clambered up into the ruins to claim the objective on their side, while the Shrikes began moving forward below a hill the Grey Knights were assembled on. The Hive Tyrant, Hive Guards, Zoe's, and Carnifex began lumbering forward across a bridge closing in on the Knights. Fire from the Deathspitter/venom cannon Warriors pelted harmlessly off the cover a Dreadnought was behind. The Hive Tyrant's Venom Cannon equally dripped off the Land Raider with no affect. The Dreadnoughts quickly smashed their way onto the 2nd level of the ruins on either side of the Land Raider fearful of the Hive Guards ability to blast them from below ground negating their forward cover. The Razor backs positioned themselves behind the ruins. One squad disembarked and climbed into the ruins to the right of the Land Raider claiming my objective. Crowe in all his manliness ripped the back hatch off the now empty Razorback and took control of it. (The door was already open mind you) The Land Raider unloaded everything into the quickly approaching Shrikes causing massive wounds but killing none. One Dreadnought fired across the field into the enemy objective somehow managing to kill all 3 Warriors with it's salvo. The last Dreadnought unloaded into the Shrikes also wiping them from the field. The Vindicare loaded a Hellfire round and smacked the Hive Tyrant in the body wounding it. End of turn 1 had me claiming 1 objective to 0 and have killed 2 full units, none for him. TURN 2: The Lictor stepped out from the shadows behind the Vindicare, wounding him once with his flesh hooks. He had been setup farther to the left of all the Grey Knights in a fortified ruin. It was now that behind the Grey Knight lines that a large crack ripped open and the Trygon Prime tore free directly behind my objective. Within the objective ruins was one dreadnought with its back to the Prime and the 1 squad of Purifiers preparing to rain psycannon fire down. As the Trygon Prime ripped free a swarm of Genestealers flew from the hole and raced towards one of the Razorbacks. The Raveners popped out from the ground under the Vindicare as well. The Carni/Tyrant/Zoe's/Guard continued to race forward looking to get into range of the Knight's fortified position. There was now enemies coming from the front, left and the Trygon right behind the Knights. The Trygon immobilized the Dreadnought in the Objective ruins, Raveners failed to wound the Vindicare, Land Raider lost its Assault cannon and was immobilized in the fire from the Tyrant and Guard. The Genestealers succeeded in exploding one Razorback with a squad of Purifiers in assault. As the smoke cleared they faced down the barrels of 3 Storm bolters and 2 primed Psycannons. The Knights needed to clear their backfield and flanks before addressing the coming tide of powerful units up ahead. The Zoe's would be within Warp Lance range next round. The Crusader unleashed a Hurricant Bolter and Melta into the Carnifex causing 2 wounds to the beast. The healthy Dreadnought finished it off with a salvo of autocannon rounds. Crowe punched open the side hatch of the Razorback and stepped out staring at the Trygon Prime. (Once again the back hatch was open and ripped off.) The Razorback then raced left past the Genestealers to reinforce the left and engage the Raveners. The Techmarine Razorback moved up behind the Crusader and the techmarine stepped out behind the Raider and next to the Genestealers. The immobilized Dreadnought unleashed on the coming Zoe's killing one. The techmarine's flamer, his Razorback, and Purifiers from the exploded Razorback finished the Genestealers in shooting. The Vindicare knew he was dead and instead of giving into instinct sighted his rifle one last time befor the Lictor could rip him apart. He loaded his Turbo Penetrator and caused another 2 wounds to the Tyrant. The objective claiming Purifiers shot down at the Trygon with no affect. One Hurricane bolter did nothing to the Trygon. Crowe ran full speed hacking and slashing into the Trygon Prime. It simply turned looked down and laughed. It's laughter quickly died out as it bit into Crowe and he unleashed his pent up psychic energy destroying himself and the Prime in one bright flash. The backfield was clear. TURN 3: The Termagaunts came in from reserve and claimed the enemy objective. The Raveners closed in on the left flank and the Tyrant, Guard, and Zoe's all moved within 6-10 inches of the Land Raider and therefor the Knights main force. The Lictor finished the Vindicare off, and the Raveners stunned the empty Razorback that was blocking their approach. The Tyrant destroyed the Dreadnought on the left ruin while one Zoe destroyed the melta on the Crusader. The 2nd Zoe failed its psychic test thanks to the Reinforced Aegis on the immobilized Dreadnought in the right objective ruin. The Guards killed 2 Purifier's occupying the objective. The Knight's from the exploded Razorback stepped into the Razorback that the Raveners were beating on and it roared to life after the pilot used his psychic energy to repair its systems. It crashed through the front of the left ruin to face the Zoe's/Guard/Tyrant. The Techmarine's squad's Razorback crashed through right next to the other Razorback to form a block through the left ruin. The Librarian stepped out from the Land Raider leaving his squad inside and he stood directly in the path of the Guards. The Techmarine stayed behind working his Servo Harness into the rear panel of the Land Raider desperately rewiring systems to bring the weapon systems back online. He succeeded and the Assault Cannon turrets spun to full power ripping the Tyrant to shreds. The immobilized Dreadnought blasted the last 2 Zoe's into the ground leaving the Guard all that was left of the main forward assault force. The Librarian opened a rift in the warp and all 3 Guards joined their friends in death. TURN4: he conceded as all he had left was the Raveners, Lictor, and Termagaunts. The Grey Knight losses were Crowe, Razorback, and a Dreadnought. The Nids had lost nearly their entire force. Was an awesome game and brings my army to 2-0. Next match will be against Orks as soon as I can repair the Razorback Crowe ripped the doors off of....what a jerk. Seahawk
Not to be mean but...that looks like an absolutely terrible Tyranid army...like a White Dwarf-style "new army wins" batrep . It looks like Shadow in the Warp never affected you...how silly! Also, neat idea with Crowe, hiding him to keep him alive for an "enemy reserves-killer" unit. 150pts removes 240...excellent! veidin
I didnt cast many psychic spells to be honest while there was shadow of warp models near me. Tried to clear them first before casting. For Crowe's sacrifice I rolled a 1 and 2, 2's so it was nice. :D Also Warp doesnt affect you if you are casting from within a vehicle so the Libby was free to do whatever he wanted while in the LR. Seahawk
True. Still, I must shake my head at the army design! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228437-grey-knight-tournament-force-vs-tyranids/#findComment-2737689 Share on other sites
veidin
I never played Nids myself so I dont know whats a good or bad army, but thanks for ruining my assumption that I had done well! :P Oh well a win is a win! Seahawk
A win is a win! Doesn't diminish the victory in the slightest. Your army did what you wanted it to (so I gather at least), so there's nothing wrong with that :) . Sabadin
FYI for future play against nids, units cannot use the Trygon tunnel on the same turn it was created, so nothing should be popping out of one until at least turn 3. the jeske
yeah you cant use the tunel on the turn it is created and stuff that comes out of it cant charge . so those stealers and ravis would be standing there for a turn taking shots ,doing nothing for a turn. That is so sad , that even with using the rules the way they would work , a nid still has his hands handed to him easily . Very nice way of showing what those warriors , that were forced by desing on us , work [or rather how they dont work with so many str 8 stuff in all armies].
