The Emperor's Finest MK. II

So awhile back, maybe over a year now, I started building up an Imperial Fist force called The Emperor's Finest. I originally never cared for yellow but later pledged myself to this legion because of their tremendous background. My original ambition was to make a full company. However, that did not come to pass as I became impatient, lazy, and got Attention Deficit Dis...oh cool, shiny stuff!

I have decided to dust off these marines and add unused ones to this force (most of them will be from the BfM box set mixed with regular ones) and try to build a decent army. I want to keep the Fists at the center while I add the Blood Angels who I like as well for their actions in the Horus Heresy, the Red Scorpions who just seem too cool for school, and Marines Malevolent because I really like their style. I hope that I can use this force back and forth with the Space Marine codex and the Blood Angels one. Essentially, this will be a coalition of Astartes on some crusade where I have appropriate units for each codex.

 

I will try to build units to what army they fit more in to from my own viewpoint, for example, Fists will get devastators and sternguard while the Angels get Jump Pack troops and alongside their chapter-specific units . The vindicator will be IF while the future pred may got to RS because I like their paint schemes. Plus, I would rather have the BA rock a Baal Predator one day (this is me dreaming that I keep this going). The MM and the RS (besides the possibility of a predator) will start off with small combat squads. I hope to expand more on each to form solid armies but I will first use up all the plastics I got on hand before any expansions/purchases. It would be a financial waste to continually purchase more stuff that may never get used.

This is the AoBR Dread from the earlier pic who was dismantled, paint stripped, rebuilt, and repainted (with an attempt at freehand that continues onto the top of the arm).

An old school Blood Angels Terminator in the early was THE FIRST ever WH40K/GW thing I had ever seen. So with some old school termies lying I wanted to paint them up BA as a nod to the mini that got me sucked into the hobby(which took a decade because I moved to Okinawa where finding GW products would be like looking for leprechauns on the moon).

 

I am still looking for a more suitable red recipe however. These guys are blood colored but glossy. Even if I could apply a matte finish I would still not be too keen on them. I am considered a paint mix of blood red and dark flesh to get a nice crimson look. Any suggestion?

A test marine for the Red Scorpions using a BfM mini. I am not really sold on this mini...besides the need for more details...something seems off.

A Marine Malevolent standing around while is brother is used as a landing pad. The MM will be tougher for me to model in the sense that I would like to make them appropriately with older marks of armor and what not. This test mini was refreshing to paint after several SoM, I love painting yellow and improving upon it.

Then the main objective of this thread, to make a good looking Imperial Fist. I wish to improve on my earlier recipe with a more simpler and more effective one and I must say I am quite happy with it.

 

I hope to get some motivation to keep me going and some criticism/comments/suggestions to improve my work. So, be on the look out for when a Loyalist kicks down your door, screams "For the Emperor", and redecorates the place with righteous fury!

I was inspired a bit by Ferro's RS Terminators and by a pic in IA4. So after salvaging what I could I put this guy together and got some paint on him. So far i am happy with how he is proceeding. but now that I look at it...the scorpion needs to be bigger on the banner.
