I had a spare marine lying around so decided to paint him up as an Astral Claw Veteran. He's just slaughter some Eldar. You are missing the heraldry for the left shoulder pad though - might I suggest checking out nurgling6688's Astral Claws thread in the Work In Progress subforum? Rob_Loken Posted April 28, 2011 Author Share Posted April 28, 2011 Cheers mate, I'm already seeing massive areas for improvements on this guy. With regard to the chapter symbol, I did indeed use Nurglings excellent guide to freehanding the symbol, though I copied a pic from IA9 which had a Claw with just a tiny symbol in the corner of his pauldron. For other guys I will be making a larger freehand symbol for the shoulder pad though. I also need to do a tactical marking (or some other squad marking) on his right shoulder. tyrannosaurus Posted May 2, 2011 Share Posted May 2, 2011 Loving the Claws at the moment after reading IA9, and it's great to see such well painted ones as these, really nice. One thing is that the star on the banner only has 4 points - in IA9 the star has 6 points. Might be too late to change it now, and looks good anyway imo ;) Are you going to have any marines with the original lion [i think it's a lion] symbol on their pad? Would definately add the extra points to the star, when I first looked thought it was a downwards pointing sword, white hilt with a squidgy blade! Perhaps the claw itself might look better a bit darker too, looks a bit grey atm (as opposed to highlighted black)? Beautiful painting in general though! To me they're the epitomy of Astartes arrogance, almost a 41st Millenium Emperors Children in the way the view humanity. Makes their whooping by the Loyalists all the sweeter. : ) Forgefather@ The recipie is simple. Spray Chaos Black. Basecoat with Boltgun Metal. Wash with Badab Black. Go over the basecoat leaving some of it exposed with Chainmail. For edge higlights use Mithril silver. The blue is a basecoat of Regal Blue worked up to Mordian Blue.
