Campaign: Liber Astartes

If anyone is interested, I have a whole "Draco Crusade" avaliable. You could read up on my Primaris Legion and Unholy Chosen if you are interested in learning some of the background to it. The Crusade force consists of several chapters (which is not "solid" as to who is involved), and quite a few IG and Inquisitorial forces.
The problem with a major Waaagh! is just that. It's a major Waaagh!, so it would probably have shown up just like Armageddon(?), and we can't use the '10,000 years to work with' excuse since there are so many 26th founding chapters.

Well, I don't see why we can't use a major Waaaagh!, I mean, the galaxy is huge, so they are probably only going to mention one of the hundreds of major Waaaaghs! Also, we could always say it is a major Waaaagh! but not as major as Armegeddon on the Strategic level.

And I can see why chapters would be going to the Ultima Segmentum. I mean, the Blood Angels sent some of their forces to help fight the Tyranid threat (though largely defeated by that time) so that they may gain experience in fighting the 'nids.

Our chapters can also send troops to fight the smaller splinter fleets, working together so that they can gain experience for the upcoming threats.

Just suggestions.

-edit-

The other two posts were done while I was typing this, so I did not see them.

I agree, a Waagh is not enough for cross Segmentums, but I believe the 'Nids would be fore maybe a half a company or so, so that they can bring back expertice.

Too...Many...Ninjas...Ugggh

They don't necessarily need to be sending large forces. In crusade fluff, they often talk about how mere squads or even single marines are sent to aid them, such as in that one campaign that Sicarius led where he ended up commanding a chapter sized body that consisted of many, many chapters' marines.

And were those marines from every segmentum in the Imperium?

With the current threats in Ultima and Tempestus, I see no logical reason for the Sons to be in Obscurus and vice versa for any chapter there.

I agree now, though I think Ultima should have a linked campaign due to the number of chapters.

I suggest establishing a cutoff date for volunteering for participation. All members are doing up to that point is volunteering to take part in the/a campaign project.

Once that cutoff date has passed, no new participants will be accepted unless the project lead approves. Compile a list of all the participating Chapters/members, including Chapter creation date (if known) and areas of operation.

From there you can break down likely groupings if you want to break down into multiple campaigns.

Something else you might consider is having an overall linkage across time and space, all of the campaigns related, perhaps obscurely, with either the first or the last being the culmination point. If the first campaign is the "starting point", then all of the other campaigns are results of it as a sort of ripple effect. Alternately, all of the campaigns might lead up to the last campaign. Big blue arrows can be created to establish relationships between campaigns and providing a framework into which all of the campaigns will fit (and this will probably be a living document, adjusted as the project organizer deems necessary based on the input of the various groups).

I agree with the notion that this really shouldn't be done by committee. There needs to be a small group running the show, with everyone else participating under direction and guidance. The small group running the overall project (and this could be just one person, if you want) orchestrates the efforts of all the sub-projects, providing overall coordination and decision-making in order to resolve/prevent conflict between sub-projects. The lead(s) might even participate in sub-projects, but overall leadership resides at the main project level.

I think that any campaign development really requires both creation and game play in order to playtest things. The campaign development comes first, followed by playtesting. Revisions might be made based on the playtesting in order to achieve the desired level of balance (not necessarily the theoretical symmetrical balance that you might find in a tournament, but balance of capabilities vs objectives that you find in historical campaigns). And then all of the sexy work is done (cool images, historical army showcases, etc.). Once all of that is done, you'll have a nifty little campaign package that other players can use.

I've been playing with a couple of storylines that could work for a long-game campaign, but first we need to have a set list of entrants. I think the deadline should be by the end of today (May 2nd). We can then have a list of chapters by Segmentum and note to their founding date. This allows us to see if we have an older segmentum etc. which will aid the overall storyline creation process.

Would you like to run this little project Ferrata? I think that it would be the best course of action.

If people would like me to then I am quite happy to do so. I don't want to run in here and take over things though purely because I have a shiny little title (I'll do it because I is bigga' den 'ou! ^_^ :P)

Campaigns come in all kinds of formats, depending upon the desires and capabilities of the designers.

I highly recommend Tempus Fugitives. Alternately, you might look at Osprey, and then add on special characters/units and missions.

I think as previously stated, that there should be several campaigns that have some sort of connection. direct or indirect. For ideas i'm still brainstorming but i'm still up for whatever happens ^_^

Just a quick question as these campaigns, stories or whatever will be will be important due to the amount of chapters taking part, would it be just to include the imperial guard in the campaign or is it all power armour only?

Obviously, non-PA armies will need to take part in the campaigns in order to make them believable. However, they will neither be the focus of the campaign nor will their development be open to discussion. If, say, we wanted to develop some background for an Ork tribe, we might have to ask for a small group of people to take the development to PM/e-mail, and the final article be brought to the group. I do forsee that much of the campaigns to focus on the DIY chapters and warbands ^_^

Alright thanks, just wanted to know as i have a background for an imperial guard army. Gonna be sticking my Angels Vengeance Chapter then :)

Here you go. And now onto organizing it and extracting data. If you have a question mark, tell me what goes there.

I think we should figure out the leadership 'problem' before we go any further, so as not to dissolve into disorganized chaos. What structure do we want? So far I see:

-one leader controls everything, and suffers brain explosions

-one leader overall, with one leader for each Segmentum/campaign area

And sorry about the double post, I just don't want to force people to look through that monster.

Thank you for the list CMID. A little C+P play into Excel via Word gives us this:

Table Now Moved.

That is 30 chapters, probably plus one of mine (I don't know which yet, either the Imperial Castellans, Dark Sons or Black Guard, which ever fit the Campaigns the best)

That looks impressive...

With 4 Chapters from the 26th you could still go with the later timed campaign ideas if you wanted, looking forward to how this all pans out! And I think it would be better to have one overall leader with supervisors/leaders of each Segmentum. Just to spread the work out it's far too much for one person.
