Horus Rising 5th anniversary edition

I'm fairly sure I'm not the first guy to have seen the newest edition of Horus Rising on Black Library's website but it was news to me that it's been five years since that book was first released (obviously). It's strange - one part of me wonders why the series hasn't got to the Siege yet and another is incredibly pleased it hasn't. And I hope it won't for five more years: There's still a galaxy out there and it's still not fully alight. I still wish to see half the legions, who haven't yet received detail, get their own story to tell. I still wish to see the Imperial army fighting with land raiders and autoguns. I still want to see more. ^_^

Well, rather than simply make this a statement of fact - let's have a discussion brothers. What do you still want to see? Do you think the series will last another five years (I think it'll last longer)? Oh, and while we're at it - did you realise it has been five short years?

Yeah, I've been kind of wondering how long the series/a related series will explore after the events of the Horus Heresy itself, so to speak.

Having said that, I really wish BL could do books on the Unification Wars themselves. With these last couple books - especially Prospero Burns - I've found myself really loving any scrap of information on pre-Imperial terra, especially things like all the various armies and regiments and mercenary warbands that eventually got absorbed into the greater Imperium. Would love to actually see the Emperor's final rise and unification against the other warlords.

But, I'd also love to see GW/Forgeworld do a range of Mk.I Thunder Armour. :(

Jeez 5 years since that came out...already? Damn.

I'm sure there's still plenty of years and books for this series to run yet! And after that there could be books focused on any number of events during 'the scouring'.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that I hope they don't do any books on the Unification Wars/Pre-Great Crusade. The little snippets of information are great but anymore and I think some of the mystery would be lost. Those days should be shrouded in the unknown and left as such, so that we the audience have the same piecemeal understanding of what went on in those times as the protagonists and people in the universe that we are reading about have. Those times deserve to remain in myth and legend IMO.

Unification Wars... sounds like a game to me. I'm sure that sentence would be cool for some of us and, well, unsavoury for others. :P

Anyhoo I'm satisfied by snippets given piecemeal but it'd be nice to have a chapter or two knee-deep in the Emperor unifying some uncooperative corner of Terra. I wonder if A D-B is feeling receptive to suggestions... :P

(I'm joking.)

Was surprised at first that it was five years, but I've reached that stage of... maturity where I'm consistently surprised at how many years have passed since something I regard as 'current' occurred - I'm annoying my younger interstate cousins by saying things like "jeez, you've grown up. Are you starting year 8 soon?" only to find out they've just finished high school.
Except that the UW isn't terribly mysterious to a lot of the main characters in the HH novels, who lived and fought through large chunks of it.

Sorry I didn't mean mysterious to the people during the heresy, I meant at the current time of the Imperium - the 41st millenium.

I'd be surprised if your average pleb in 40k even knew there were Unification Wars. :pirate:

Exactly, and even if we took the point of view of space marines, their knowledge of those times would be hazy at best. The Unification Wars are cool but they should be kept as myth and legend and only hinted at in HH books IMO. Furthest back they should go is the first fleets setting out from Terra maybe. Just my opinion.
