So, I've had a pretty good day hobby wise! Did a bit of touch-up on the Company Master (got the 5th quarter insignia on a skull on his belt) and realised I'm happier with him than I thought, so that's good! Still haven't got the DV librarian or Chaplain started, but popped the company down to my local GW; 106 Marines of the Dark Angel 5th Company are now on proud display! The 11 year old me never thought I'd be able to say that! If anyone is in the Cornwall, UK area at some point in the near future, check em out, let's get a game in!

I took a couple of pictures for proof/posterity, and would like to put them up here to show off but I understand that the B&C gallery has broken or something? I'm not going to create a photobucket or equivalent account, so will just wait until we're back up an running.

I'm about to make some LPC and PtR vows as well, so this post will be the holder for a Nephilim Fighter (180), a librarian (we'll make him level 2, so 100) and an Interrogator-Chaplain (he's the Seraphicus model, so... 125, from the FAQ?). I'll link to here, and post verbal updates until the gallery is back online (I've taken starting photos, but obviously can't show you). If a mod reads this, might they be able to give some indication of when the gallery might start working again, or provide an energetically neglible alternative?

Cheers now!

The B&C gallery is working again! And my word is she a doozy. I uploaded 13 photos in one go. Slight hangup when I came to publish them, but I simply went back to my gallery, clicked on the newly created album, was prompted that I hadn't finished publishing the last set of photos, clicked to do so, and Bob is indeed my uncle.

So, without further ado, here are some (a lot) WIP shots of my (actually long finished) Dark Nephilim Talon-fighter, marking my January PtR vow complete, and the first part of my LPC 2013 vow finished.

Apologies about the vast pictures. I'm not convinced I'm embedding them the best way. Whilst posting, I have my gallery open simultaneously, and in the past have simply copied the image link listed at the side of each photo. That link isn't apparent to me in the new gallery, so I am right-clicking to photo, following the direct image link, then copying this from my internet navigation bar and pasting it into the image embed button in the posting bar. Is this how everyone else is doing it?? Is there a code I can stick in to prevent the photos filling the screen? They never did that in the past from what I remember...

This weekend I managed to paint my DV librarian. It won't count towards my PtR vows as we can't yet vow for February, but it does make up part of my LPC 2013 vow. Next on the list is the DV chaplain, which will be the 5th Company properly finished; I'll post an assembled picture then. It will also be my LPC vow completed, and will form my February PtR vow for my 6th pearl. Happy days! Don't want to jump the gun yet, so here are a couple of WIPs and completed Librarian shots (crikey, looks patchy under the microscope like this!! Usual caveat of it looks much more acceptable in real life, blah blah blah...).

Repeated request for advice; how can I make the photos come up smaller on-screen? They could happily be half the dimensions they currently are...

Cheers n gone!

The Nephilim fighter and Librarian look very nice, great job! :D My only suggestion for the Librarian would be to possibly give a little bit of Nuln Oil wash into the soft armor areas on the arms, that could give them a little definition, because right now the ridges almost seem to blend too much into the entirety of the arm. Again though, very nice composition on both items. Also, if you don't feel that he's completely finished, such as the base not being done or you need to more highlights or add some other details, then you can probably still use him for the PtR. :D

To reduce the size of the images, I would suggest two things to do. The first would be to use a free/bundled photo editor to reduce the size of the image directly so that they aren't so large a resolution when uploaded. The second would be that rather than using the direct image link, click on one of the other size selections (in this instance, I would go with Small, Medium at the largest) and invite people to view the large images in your gallery (possibly with a link).

Hope that helps!

Gotta agree with Bryan - listen to him as he knows his stuff ;)

Another option with the soft joints is to go for a metal look. Paint them in boltgun metal then use a black ink over that. Once dry the ridges will stay dark metal and the valleys will be black. This is a quick and effective method (and one I use on all my figures).

Thanks for the comments guys, and from three forum heavyweights no less...

Good tips for both painting and presentation. Believe it or not I had actually done quite a heavy Nuln wash in the soft armour folds for that very reason, but you're correct that there is limited definition; she ain't no Badab Black... It went staright into the shop window with the rest of the gang, but I'll be sure to hit the joints with another layer eventually. I think there's some old Badab knocking around somewhere - should be good n thick n dark by now...

I'll have a jig around with photo options at some point in the future; they're nice large occasionally, but just not necessary (or desirable!!) in a thread like this.

Cheers now!

Finally work on the chaplain has begun! As the LPC requires some WIP shots rather than just the finished article (and rightly so), here is the basecoated mini, and then the first stage of colour blocking pre-wash. Going for a blast of fresh air, then I'll hit it with some Devlan and some Badab. Then a clean up on the black armour and an edge highlight and it'll be time for another photo. Wish me luck...

Well, that's that! Chaplain finished, which means that my LPC 2013 vow, my PtR 6th vow and my 5th company is complete!! These ~11 months been quite the trip, but I reckon my painting has come on leaps and bounds, and that's just through trial and error. I'm sure focussed improvement and tutorial-based guidance would have been the way to go, but I've still had fun!

Here's the Chaplain to constitute my WIP and completed shots for the various pledge threads; once these are up I'll drop off Seraphicus at the store and grab the long-promised group photo!!

Finished!!!

Ok, last one from me today, I promise! Here are some in-cabinet shots of my entire 5th Company, with HQ and air support. Sorry the front-on one is so naff; it's hard taking a shot through two panes of glass when it's quite bright...

To complete my log, I present 109 space marines...
