Grand Master Mordrak questions

I am planning on taking GM Mordrak and i was looking at his rules vis a vie deep strike, ie no scatter, appear first turn.

he is not an IC so he can only take the ghost knights, however i believe i'm right in saying that he could take an IC that was attached to him.

now ive always been a bit unclear about this but can an IC join more than one unit at once? ie the captain has joined tactical squad alpha and tactical squad beta.

if that is allowed then could my independent character join say a squad of paladins and join the ghost knights in which case the paladins could benefit from the deepstrike rule mordrak has.

model wise my plan is this; i'm buying BC stern and inquisitor coteaz. i'm going to steal the hammer from coteaz who will become my brotherhood champion (-eagle) and stern will get the hammer + some other conversions to become mordrak.

any thoughts, comments?

lastly, how any advice on painting the ghosts?

thanks

What? An Independent Character is able to join a SINGLE unit, he can't suddenly beam across the whole table ingame to become part of another unit.

Or you could simply buy a GK terminator box and use all the justicar bits and the included NDH to build a good looking and cheap Mordrak. You can build a whole unit of Mordrak and 4 Ghost Knights for less money than buying dozens of limited metal minis.

No, you can't join a IC to a squad, then join that squad to another squad. The closest you could probably pull off the trick you want is to attach a Libby and then have him attempt to summon the unit near him.

I guess I'm not completely clear on your question so forgive me if my answer is a little off.

Yes you can attach an IC unit to Mordrak and his Ghost Knights, this additional unit benefits from the no scatter assault as well. For example, if you wanted to attach an Inquisitor or Librarian to the Ghost Knight unit then that is completely fine and legal. As to your second question, from how I am reading it, the answer would be no, and IC can only join one unit at a time.

why on earth would he have to beam across the battlefield? fluff wise it makes perfect sense that the captain or what have you would join with a few different squads and lead them en masse into the enemy. rules wise fair enough. i like the librarian idea. upgrade him to level three and summon three units a turn to you behind the enemy lines, nasty.

it occurred to me, if mordrak starts in a storm raven i assume he still gets his deep strike rule correct?

yes i could make him from regular box sets but it would be difficult to differentiate him from my regular justicars etc, stern has some nice robes and a different head than the sprues. i also particularly like coteaz's armour and cape and i like the different hammer for mordrak, i think that as a mater crafted one it should look different.

It would be better to buy the terminator box set and make a Mordrak yourself or get a daemon hammer and put it on the brother captain model (which is what I did), the cot. hammer, while awesome, might look a bit small and will be a hassle to get off him

I think that those rules only carry over to dedicated transports (i.e, no to scouting land raiders for vanilla s:m).

That's.... debateable, mainly because if he's in a storm raven he isn't deep striking himself it's the storm raven which is deep striking and given it isn't a dedicated transport it's most certainly not his unit, so more likely than not no you can't first turn no scatter a storm raven

That is probably the best way to put it. Kudos mate.

i might use a daemon hammer from the termie box but i prfer the idea of coteaz's a more one handed. i think the regular gk one are far too long. can you imagine actually trying to swing that in battle?

the hammer is pretty separate i think

O take it back, for some reason thought it was more... connected :cuss! Although I still think it's a little short but I'm sure you can make it work if you want to!!
