Apoc question

Recommended Posts

Was looking at the data sheet on GW for Stenhammer's Wulfen for Apoc. games. To use this data sheet you pay 50 points plus the points for the models. It would appear (looking at the stat line and rules) that this is taken from the Eye of Terror codex. So my question is....If I use this data sheet do I then need to use the old Space Marine and Space Wolves codex to make the rest of my army list?

1. This is not taken from the EoT Codex. In EoT Wulfen did not have Rending and Fleet rules. Although the stat-line of Wulfen is similar to that in the EoT Codex, it is re-printed in the datasheet, so You don't have to use the EoT Codex even for looking up their stats. Also in the data sheet they are called Wulfen Guard, not Wulfen as in EoT.

2. As to the Wolf Priest, the sentence "chosen from the Codex Space Wolves" refers IMO to ANY existing Codex Space Wolves which is in force at a given time. Currently, that would be our 5th edition codex with Wolf Priests having initiative 4.

The datasheet can be used with the new codex. The stats are listed on the datasheet, so it gives you the information that you need, rather then saying see codex space wolves like other datasheets do. The rending and fleet are new rules for the wolf packs so that further suggests that it is changed to be used on the new codex, not the old one since they dont have those rules in the EoT.

Notice the sheet says that the squad size is 10. It doesn't give a range of 5-10 or 3-10, it just says 10. Since the total cost of a unit of wulfen is 240, then it would stand to reason that they are 24 points per model. That's really nothing to be concerned about since you can't buy individual models according to the sheet. You buy groups of 10 or none at all, and you at least have to buy 2 groups of 10 in order to use the formation.

Sorry Hallbjorn,

Where do you see that on the data sheet. Not finding it.

Look near the bottom of the datasheet. The bold print that says "Wulfen Guard Pack". Directly to the right of that, in the same bold print, it says "Points Cost: 240 Points".

Now look below all that at the last line where it says "Number/squad: 10"

Given this information, it stands that a squad is made up of 10 wulfen guard...no more, no less. Since those 10 models cost 240 points, then each model is technically 24 points each. Since the squad is bought as 10 models only, the individual points cost doesn't matter. You pay in increments of 240 points for 10 models, and must do that at least twice and then pay for the formation and a wolf priest to field that formation.

The sheet is telling you that you must pay 50 points, plus the cost of a wolf priest (taken from our current codex), plus the cost of two wulfen guard packs. As it states at the bottom of the sheet, a wulfen guard pack consists of 10 models and costs 240 points. Just like a few other units in our codex (lone wolves, vehicles) and others, you don't get a variable number of models in a unit.

This formation would cost a bare minimum of 630 points. That's without putting anything at all on the wolf priest and only fielding the required two packs of wulfen. Beyond that, you can spend points to put things on the wolf priest or spend more bundles of 240 points to field more squads of 10 wulfen.

10 wulfen in a pack. No packs of 5 or 15 or 20 or whatever. 1 Wulfen Guard Pack = 10 Wulfen Guard models.
