brotherhood champion?

Recommended Posts

the BC has his uses, i had one incredibly awesome game against orks. the BC charged with a 5 man purifier squad into a orkboy mob. thanks to cleansing flame from the purifiers and the reroll to hit from the BC they killed most of em. my enemy however decided to move his bossbikaz into the combat. killing off my purifiers (they took 3 bikaz with them!) and well.. i let my BC use his defensive stance in every round of combat. thanks to that, i held off a 8 man bossbika squad(well 5, 3 were dead) with him alone unti lthe end of the game. taking away the biggest threat of the ork army i had to face there.

thanks to the annointed blade beeing a nemesis force sword and the iron halo he runs around with a 2+/3++ in combat. if you fail a save.. reroll it thanks to the defensive stance. even though this fella cant attack back. he simply holds the line and binds the enemy so well. hes awesome.

Like most GK options, its takes some creative thinking on how to use them to find their true value.

I think SW players have a pretty good grasp of value HQ with our rune priest and wolf priest options being present in several well made lists. The BC is a very nice value HQ. Cheap enough to be considered like an upgrade character to Strike Squads with his fancy stances and such surprising any enemy IC with HS.
Everybody laughed when I first took my Brotherhood champion over the more shall we say "illustrious" options for an HQ. Yeah they teased and poked and prodded me with good ribbing. They were laughing up until our huge battle of 3000 points a side and the NIGHTBRINGER rolling a whole flank. Alone stood my Brother champion and a five man squad of purifiers with a chant on his lips and a fervor in his eye my champ gave his life for the Emperor that day and took the damn star god with him! Then he did the same thing next game against an ork warboss, then a wayward marine captain, and finally slayed a wounded tyrant in solo combat. Nobody laughs anymore at my Brotherhood champion. Guys like a bulldog, small but man is he viscious :D do not discount him at your own peril.

Well he didn't go too well, but that wasn't his fault. His LR was destroyed by a charging Trygon first turn (got 4 penetrating hits, even hitting on 6's). Forgot about FC making them S7. Then I planned a multicharge in my turn 2 but rolled too low on difficult terrain (2" in movement phase and 4" assault range). Should have simply charged the Trygon, which charged me in return. BC survived for 3 rounds though, failing all psychic tests (Shadows), but passing Heroic Sacrifice then failing to hit. :D

I definitely see potential in a GK hero I can take alongside an Inquisitor and spending less than the other GK heroes are by themselves. I think a LR or a SR are compulsory for him and his squad, the re rolls on the charge are still his biggest draw card.
