DornsApothecary
After many years away from the hobby i've found it again and probably now indulging it all more than I did as a kid as it is a welcome distraction from work, etc. Anyways... Having read lots about the Crimson Fists I really enjoyed their background fluff and decided to work on a CF army. In an attempt to make my marines standout a little as individuals I was going to make some of them veterans of the Declates Crusade who still wear the Black Templars Cross and the red/white shield - particularly sergeants. Knowing that the CFs are known to contribute often to the ranks of the Deathwatch I also wanted to include a one or two (even more) grizzled veterans who have returned from the service of the Inquisition. Does anyone know whether these marines would keep their blackened armour (and Deathwatch shoulder pad on left... and Chapter should pad on right...) or would they paint there armour (for the second time!) and return back to their standard chapter colours? Thought it might look more interesting to have couple black armoured SMs running around within the ranks of my Command HQ / Tactical Squads bearing the arms of the Inquisition still. Would be grateful for any thoughts and if anyone has already done something along these lines would love to see pics! cathar the great
"Your army, do what you want" applies here, I think. I'm not sure that there is actual background info dealing with this, so you basically have free reign. I had a returned Deathwatch veteran in a squad once. I gave him the silver DW shoulder guard on the left and also painted the left arm black. He also had the modified bolter the Deathwatch use. Apart from that, I kept him in the normal chapter colors. Sadly, I have no pics because he got his paint stripped along with another 2000 points of marines XD It looked nice enough but didn't destract from the rest of the squad. Olis
In regards to BT livery adorning a brother chapter - perhaps you could use those tiny shield things that come with terminators and paint them black and white, leaving the power armour proper in CF colours? Just an idea. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228937-crimson-fists-whove-returned-from-the-deathwatch/#findComment-2745445 Share on other sites
RamrodMC
In the few cases where I've seen 'Eavy Metal-painted ex-Deathwatch Marines, they wear their normal colours, but have the left shoulder of their Deathwatch armour (incidentally, cathar, it is said that Marines serving in the Deathwatch paint the whole left arm silver, not black with a silver shoulder, but as you said, your army, your paints). However, paint them as you please. If they wear the full-black plate of the Deathwatch, you could just pretend they "just got back" and haven't painted their armour back. =P You could even paint them as active service Deathwatch Marines from a bunch of different Chapters. That is to say, your Crimson Fists force could have a DW kill-team attached to it, but the kill-team was split up so that each of your CF squads has a Deathwatch Marine in it, as an advisor (or even replacing the sergeant?). Damn, I like that. I wish I'd thought of it when I started my army. EDIT: Olisredan, DornsApothecary seems to have decided to use Declates iconography, which says that Crimson Fist veterans of that crusade wear the Templar cross on their knee, and Black Templar veterans paint their fist red. If he were to use the little heraldry shields, they would probably better serve to paint the crusade badge on. DornsApothecary
Awesome, thanks for people's comments and suggestions. Like the idea of maybe a couple CFs who have been back for a little while so just have the shoulder pads and then maybe just one or two who've recently returned from the Deathwatch. Thanks again Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228937-crimson-fists-whove-returned-from-the-deathwatch/#findComment-2746649 Share on other sites
