Brother Captain Kezef
Today I was building a Termintaor spam list based on 3 Terminator squads at 2k. The list has a Dreadknight because I couldn't find anything else that fit the points and army synergy. I feel dirty. Eorek
ah don't feel bad about it:P ... it's a cool army ... not one you will see at the top tables as a tournament... but cool never the less... Though I guess alot of people will make armies like that:P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228970-i-feel-dirty/#findComment-2745652 Share on other sites

Though I guess alot of people will make armies like that:P Terminators I'm ok with, always used them as the core of a GK force and now i can throw away the PA troops I had to take. It's the DK that makes me feel soiled, i hate the damn thing for fluff reasons but it just works for the points and army role. i feel like a sell-out using it :geek:( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228970-i-feel-dirty/#findComment-2745658 Share on other sites
RamrodMC
As a member of the anti-DK camp myself, let me assuage your remorse, brother: the Emperor forgives you. Now, go and fight His enemies with... any... tools at your disposal. I promise I won't tell. T3mpl@r Crusade
forgive my ignorance, but why is there 2 sides to using the dreadknight? isnt it a matter of personal preference? and as mentioned, army synergy that determines if you use one? I've read a few reviews on the dreadknight, but nothing to convince me against running out and buying one. thoughts? Inquisitor =D=
Well Brother Captain, if you're really gonna toss those PAGK's hows about sending them my way? I could always use more. Ya know, I've actually just been thinking about this kinda list and what I'm curious about is thus; how would it play? Solidly terminators much like deathwing but without the heavy long range (cyclone missles and assault cannons). So? Plans? =]D[= (I'm serious about those knights friend. :P ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228970-i-feel-dirty/#findComment-2745834 Share on other sites
spu00sed
I know how you are feeling. Sometimes you just buy a model because it is a quick way of filling poiints. I feel the same about my steam tank for my empire army. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228970-i-feel-dirty/#findComment-2745869 Share on other sites

Solidly terminators much like deathwing but without the heavy long range (cyclone missles and assault cannons). So? Plans? Psycannons -are- Assault Cannons, but better. +1 Strength and the ability to fire it on the move if wearing power armor. So you're only really missing out on the CML. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228970-i-feel-dirty/#findComment-2746036 Share on other sites

Careful deepstriking can mitigate range issues and str7 H4 rending bulletstorms make land Raiders disappear. The main stratgey is to hit one end of the line with everything and roll the other guy up, focus my full force on one section at a time and take it apart. Spreading a force across the board is suicide for a small, elite army so I concentrate force. the GM's ability to make PT troops (interceptors/DK) scoring means a good last minute objective steal aswell. I've read a few reviews on the dreadknight, but nothing to convince me against running out and buying one. thoughts? It's mainly that the whole thing just got shoehorned in, just so the Grey Knights could have a cool new unit. After all, it's brought in so that Grey Knights can fight greater daemons in combat, yet the codex mentions many greaters getting beaten without the aid of dreadknights, so they aren't necessary. Plus, the whole thing lacks any Imperial aesthetic, it looks like it came out of a gundam series or something, rather than 40k. While the GKs themselves have all the smooth lines etc, they're also absolutely covered in inscriptions/purity seals/other 'gothic' stuff, whereas the Dreadknight is just smooth lines. It just doesn't fit the look of the army. As for using one in your army when you hate them, this is where conversions and counts-as come in handy. Apollo Densin
Personally I will only pick up a DK since I would like to have every GK unit. Personally a Dreadnought can do most of what a DK can plus now with stormravens they got a good transport unit as well Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228970-i-feel-dirty/#findComment-2746240 Share on other sites
Brother Dylan
Dreadnaughts cannot take on monstrous creatures in close combat, especially not daemons. From my experiences dreadknights are very good at combating greater daemons and other monstrous creatures, only times they've failed me is when they were outnumbered in close combat, or met Abbadon. They also fill a niche roll of taking out AV 14, granted most seem to like the vindicare for that task. Son of Rawl
I don't understand why this could not have been the Dreadnoughts role, in the old codex knights hated the idea of being intered into a Dreadnought, when they died they solely wanted to be laid to rest back on Titan. Would of been more fluffy that he sacrifices his well earned rest next to the Emperor to continue the long war against the Greater Daemons that others cannot fight, that sounds more awesome than a "Oh sweet you see that walker in Avatar we should totally use that for this" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228970-i-feel-dirty/#findComment-2746608 Share on other sites

I agree its not as gothic as the rest but maybee the new monkeys built it. and as far it looking like it doesnt fit in 40k its a perfect tau imperial hybred Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228970-i-feel-dirty/#findComment-2746700 Share on other sites
confused_gordy
Yeah, the not quite imperial design is also explained in the fluff, as it is meant to be partially xenos in nature. Master_Matteo
its ok, my "quick i need to feel dirty list" includes 2 librians, 2 10 man termy squads, and 2 dread knights (at 1850) with a single 6man squad in a rhino for the drive bys. Reclusiarch Darius
I don't know how you'd make a 'dirty' GK army. Maybe a lulzy one (oh hai meet my 40 monkeys in Chimeras that morph lascannon), but nothing I'd class as 'the hell did that get through playtesting?' (I'm looking at you, Stormhammers :( ). Triple teleporter+greatsword Dreadknight? In that practise game on the GW site, the only thing they could find that would hold them back was a Warhound, so I guess you could consider that as 'cheesy'. 12 x T6 Terminator wounds to chew through, they move insanely fast and they re-roll everything in close-combat. Good for eating Landraiders, vehicle squadrons, infantry without high Initiate ID-causing weapons (I had a game where a Slanneshi Daemon-weapon toting Lord curbstomped my beloved Dreadknight, that one wound got past him and poof :( ). Kay
Im bringing an almost identical list to a friendly tournament im starting in a few days. Mine Goes like Mordrak+librarian with might, warp rift, sanctuary,MC Mrs and locator, both in a unit with 4 ghost knights, supported in turn 1 by 2 scout-shunting DKs and in following turns by 2x10 terminators with a couple psicanons each DSing near the libby using Mordrak's PC since turn 2. The list also sports a vindicare at 2k... The key of this kind of lists is applying pressure on the weakest part of his battleline since turn 1, while being able to stay defensive against full cc armies. I'll let you know how it does as does as I try it out Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/228970-i-feel-dirty/#findComment-2748822 Share on other sites
Cpt. Blood Donator
I might add that you can always have the dreadknight outflanking to save som points. Outflanking is a great option for Grand Strategy, at least in my humble opinion. Especially in a terminator armored army, as no matter the roll, you can still deepstrike those who can't get in that way. thecapn226
Unless I'm mistaken, grand strategy doesn't apply to MC. I think the codex specifies what types of units can get the benefits.
