New Daemon Player - Making a Khorne Army

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I want to start playing daemons, already play Khorne CSM, figured I'd give myself extra ways to shed blood for the blood god. Anyways, I would appreciate tips on building my lists and strategerizing.

To Start Currently have:

1 Bloodthirster

Skulltaker

6 Bloodcrushers

30 Bloodletters

2 Soulgrinders

Again, advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

not to shabby to start. if you're going pure khorne you may have some difficulties. your BL's will get shot before they can hit things, which suck. i find that PB's, 5 with an icon, in the first wave will setup nicely for your BL's and crushers. cover saves from whatevers ganna fire at you and presicion DSing. if you hve a problem with PM's fluff wise just made skeletons to animate them. they cant feel pain and im sure there are enough bones lying about in khornes kingdom. the SG's..use in pairs, and never both mouth upgrades. once they rip off the mouth you lose both. spit and walk untill you can make things go squish. SG's are nasty considering vs template weps they have a low profile. (have fun targeting legs) models can fit UNDER them. it is perfectly legal to make them hover ontop of models (i hide the masque this way). blood crushers. what more can i say? stay away from fists. sense they are slow you will need the icons. 5 men are MUCH harder to mishap than 15 BL's.

run the letters in groups of 10-15 i would say. big enough to hurt and take a little bit of wounds but small enough to get the cover from the PB's. bloodthirster is nice though i find keeper of secrets to out preform him.

There is a nice write-up on Chaos Daemons: Daemonic Review. I found it helpful when starting out and recommend it. The parts on upgrades and specific units contain some good advice.

I played a Khorne-Tzeentch list for a while, so I have had some experience with Khorne daemons. I agree with Abyssel: Bloodletters will get shot up. If you want any hope of having bloodletters survive to get into assault, take them in groups of 12+. If you want to score objectives, have some drop in the second wave and/or keep them in cover or behind your Bloodcrushers. Bloodcrushers are solid. In units of 3-4, give them upgrades so you can play wound allocation tricks for maximum survival. The soul grinders will help with some long-range support. The Bloodthirster is a beast, but he will probably be your main anti-tank assault unit. If you have the points, Unholy Might and Blessing of the Blood God are great.

Skulltaker is okay, but for your other HQ slot I'd take either a second Bloodthirster (preferably) or 2 Khorne heralds either on juggernauts or in chariots. The juggernauts will beef up your 'crusher units, while chariots and certain upgrades can make them pretty deadly. Also, fill your 3rd Heavy Support slot with a third soul grinder or Khorne prince to take some pressure off of your 'thirster(s).

Overall, mono-Khorne lacks ranged support and will get shot up during deep strike. Just be prepared to take the hits, stay in cover or out of light of sight as much as possible, and get into assault ASAP. And as much fun and as fluffy as mono-god armies can be, you may find yourself getting units from other gods to add needed support. You can either convert them into Khorne equivalents or just go multi-god.
