KJB
Like the title says, I've decided to start a small (for the moment...) force of Dark Angels - 6th company. I've almost completed my Master (just got the base to finish) and have a few ideas of what I want to do next but am just after a few opinions... Librarian - Stick with the Ezekiel model (by far the best librarian sculpt to date) or try and make one out of plastic? (possibly on a bike?) Techmarine - again, stick with the metal one or build one using spare parts and wearing the plastic robes? (I'm awful with green stuff) Stormraven - What colour? Green? Or the black of the Ravenwing? I'll get some pictures up of the master when he is complete Advice and guidance appreciated! Kaika87
Ehhhhhhhh, well honestly as far as list-building goes, there are much better choices out there than Techmarines and Librarians. Our Librarians are actually not that good at all. However, I would steer as far away from Biker Librarians as you can, if you're set on taking one. Ravenwing aren't anything special in assault, so keep the Librarian on foot and in a squad where his force weapon can do some damage. I personally hate working with metal models, so if I were making a Librarian, I'd kitbash between the DA veteran box and some Grey Knight bits. As far as the Techmarine goes, I really can't help you very much, as I have no experience working with them. I think your best option is to go with the metal model, however, since I think the IG tech priests are smaller models. Dark Angels don't get Storm Ravens, but if we do in the future (which would rock), I'd paint mine green or white. Since you're not going for Deathwing forces, I think yours is best done green. I would vote against black mainly because the Ravenwing are all about fast scouting and recon. Fluff-wise, a gunship-transport armed to the teeth is incongruous with that role. KJB
Yeah, I only have the Stormraven kit following a weird Blood Angel phase that I went through... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229109-new-dark-angel-player/#findComment-2747847 Share on other sites
Kaika87
Yeah, I only have the Stormraven kit following a weird Blood Angel phase that I went through... It's ok, we all make mistakes :). Actually, in all honesty the Storm Raven is an amazing looking kit, and I'd kill to try one out with the Dark Angels. I will say that Dark Angels Greenwing (3-9th Companies) is a bit underwhelming. I strongly recommend complimenting your forces with either Deathwing or Ravenwing for when you sit down to build an army. skink
ODM has a thread a few pages back that has recently included a StormRaven. Long story short? They look killer in dark green. And I would (and very occasionally do) use the Ezekiel model as your libby, and pretty much leave as is (maybe include a DA backpack). He's a little small, but as you say it is a brilliant looking model, and it seems a shame not to give him some table time. No idea about the Techmarine I'm afraid, though from a purely pragmatic viewpoint I suspect they'd steer clear of robes... Looking forward to seeing some shots! Grand Master Neo
personally i kit bashed my librarian together and used the ezekiel model as my banner bearer with a small amount of chopping and grinding/filing Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229109-new-dark-angel-player/#findComment-2748338 Share on other sites
Brother Bardok
i kitbashed my Libby from the DA sprue, with some odd bits from my bits box. As for the techmarine, you might be able to put the servo-harness backpack on a plastic robed figure with a little filing here and there. Just add some dataslates and mecha bits hanging on his belt and presto: techmarine. Cylu
If you were going to stick the servo harness on a different body, I'd seriously recommend tracking down one of the older metal robed bodies. Otherwise it would be ridiculously top heavy. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229109-new-dark-angel-player/#findComment-2748868 Share on other sites
KJB
Here's my Master of the 6th company - I wanted the armour to be dark and the robe to appear as a simple surplice and not some elaborate pattened number with regal lining - The photo's were taken on an iPhone so aren't the greatest - some of my highlights and layers appear to have either vanished or have brightened... <_< (Honestly his robe is not just Bleached Bone!!) Still a couple of touch ups needed here and there, then off to painting Ezekiel, or a dreadnought, or a Chaplain, or building a Stormraven... Comments, advice etc appreciated as always Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229109-new-dark-angel-player/#findComment-2748971 Share on other sites
Tanhausen
Looking beautiful! The chest freehand looks quite interesting, did you do it before assembling the arms? And if you accept pettitions, can you get a shot of the helmet from the front? Brother Kovash
Looks like the hammer from the Death Company box fits perfectly on our guys! I appreciate that you didn't go over the top when making your company master, too many people seem to do that nowadays. KJB
Thanks guys Yeah, I love that thunder hammer!! Next up will be Ezekiel I think - unless I'm distracted by something shinier (which happens a lot, that Stormraven box keeps looking at me...) Tanhausen
Nice use of the bit then...usually those are simply pasted on the model and look rigid. A shame you don't take pettitions  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229109-new-dark-angel-player/#findComment-2753113 Share on other sites
