skoll
Which fluffy characters do you brothers prefer or find yourself fielding more often. These may be special characters like Njal , or things like bikelords. I myself find myself fielding Njal every now and then and I plan on fielding a termie lord on foot who is currently a WIP, he'll be followed a PA lord when i get round to collecting some bits. Finally a ragnar conversion would be in order. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229283-fluffy-characters/ Share on other sites
Marshal Wilhelm
I have long had my eye on Ulrik the Slayer. After A D-B elevated Grimaldus into demi-god status in Helreach, I am sure just as magnificent job can be done with the warrior who was saluted for martial prowess by Daemon Prince Angron himself. He turned down an offer to Lordship. He fought on Armageddon. He has schooled Ragnar and many other top notch Wolves. He was before and grew up with Logan, perhaps the most popular Imperial commander in the Universe. If Ulrik cannot be turned into something jaw-dropping, I don't know what can! On Prospero Burns: Abnett turned Bjorn into something much more than 'old Wolf in Dread from 30K' and really invigorated him. If the writers can do this from just a page or twos information in a Codex, then really, the sky is the limit for the amazingness that can be elaborated ! Wulfebane
Big fan of Bjorn. Just wish I had time to build a more suitable dread to represent him. The old Bjorn model is now the standard (oop) SW dread, and all the ven. dreads just seem either too generic or not enough for the greatest and oldest "living" Lord of Wolves. Outside of that, gimme a rune priest any day. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229283-fluffy-characters/#findComment-2750678 Share on other sites

Jonas Stromclaw
If you're asking strictly named characters, then nobody beats ol' Bjorn. But most of the time I find myself using my own wolf lord or wolf priest. Our 'generic' HQs are absolute beasts and have more than enough character for me. commander alexander
For unique, named characters, I would have to choose Lukas. I love his story, being better than a wolf guard, but he doesn't care, and so he's still rocking with the blood claws! He is, also a good buy in my opinion for his stats, wargear and rules. For "unnamed" or "unofficial", it would have to be my Iron Priest who I run as a Wolf Lord rules wise. I do this because I never get a chance for him to repair stuff, and I can't get the image of him kicking some butt in close combat out of my head. Valerian
I've been working on building Ragnar's GC since the early '90s, so I take him every game. I appreciate that Phil Kelly made him extremely formidable in this version of the codex. I would use Njal, too, since he was originally in Ragnar's GC, but with one very expensive character already in the list, I can't justify him over a cheaper Rune Priest. Also, the FAQ ruling that half of his LoT effects don't work if you're going second, doesn't help his case I have the same issue with Bjorn; he's a very expensive Dreadnought. I'd take him anyway, but his lack of a Drop Pod option (and I3 nerf), really hurts. I've never been interested in either Logan, or Ulrik, and I no longer even own their models. I'm not drawn to Logan, since I don't play his GC, and don't need any other Wolf Lord than Ragnar. I've always been turned off on Ukrik because of his horrid model; one of the worst ever made by Citadel. Arjak is nice, good rules and decent story (albeit inconsistent with accepted fluff), so I could see using him if/when I build a model that does him justice. Canis and Lukas are right out; I have no interest in anything about either one, and prefer their sagas be stricken from the records in the next edition. Wulfebane
If I can ever afford the Forge World Space Wolf Ven Dread it would be used as Bjorn. The wolf bits I think suit Bjorn, if only just barely (I do love that banner/pelt, though)... but the actual chassis and especially that close-combat arm are all very underwhelming to me. Based on that arm alone, I'd rather FW take the whole line of ven. dreads back to the drawing board. skoll
I used ragnar against some eldar the other day.....he carved himself trough 3 squads with just 2 grey hunters left in his squad. He was eventually downed by some harlequins , after getting a mighty 20 kills and swooping advancing two squads and making the third run of the board Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229283-fluffy-characters/#findComment-2753460 Share on other sites

Paradill
Fluff-wise, I adore Grimnar, the old wolf was my first choice way back in 3rd edition and remains one of my favourite 40k characters to this day. More recently, my rune priest, Krüger Stormcrow, has massacred (or helped massacre) his way through more than enough Eldar to have earned his place as Gunnar Redmoons go-to gothi. Paradill Coincidentally my rune priest has been qruite the bloodsport star as well. Living Lightning has been hell for opponents, Tempest Wrath has been forcing 1's to roll like never before, and the two times he has seen CC, he has done really well. He made Meph look like a novice by shutting down a huge amount of powers in a recent game. I have been very happy with him. Wolf Lord Hallbjorn
Go for something like the cover art for Battle of the Fang. By a stroke of luck I ended up with two of the Forgeworld venerable dreads. One of them i've put two autocannons on and the other isn't together yet. They would indeed make a good Bjorn, but i've already got the old metal Bjorn so i'm just filling my dread ranks with the FW ones. As for characters, i've had great success with Logan, Ragnar, Njal, Arjac, and Canis. I haven't used Lukas or Ulrik in battle yet, unfortunately. I plan to in the future. As far as non-special characters, I always like to run at least one rune priest. Kassill
So far I have been running Njal, but, have come to the conclusion I am not getting his points back what soever. So, I am now going to play around with fielding my own named Rune Priest and Thunderlord. But have no fear, Njal will still see the light of day in higher point games! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229283-fluffy-characters/#findComment-2755403 Share on other sites
Nrthstar
In My last game I fielded njal in tda in a crusader, he didn't even have to do anything to make his points back, my friends focus fired on him, deepstriking within ranger of it to shoot, so harald deathwolf and his twc ate them alive Deathwolf has been my best hq by far, and my favorite fluff character Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229283-fluffy-characters/#findComment-2757601 Share on other sites
Loathir's Own
My favorite named characters are Bjorn, who I haven't used yet and Njal. Last game Njal personally took out a Baal Predator with his LOT ability and forced three squads to take wounds and then walk through dangerous terrain, making them not melta one of my vendreads. My favorite dyo character is Krakendoom, his fluff is awesome. I plan on using him with a group of swiftclaws as a bike lord with a wolf claw and stormshield, and saga of the warrior born. I can't run him yet because I don't have bikes or a bike lord.
