Master Barachiel
First of all, I thought about posting this thread in Apocalypse or Battlefleet Gothic but then I thought it might better fit here. Basically my idea consists of building a Space Marine vessel from bits of the Imperial Sector and othere scenery sets. It should have the size of a normal tabletop battle field. The idea is taken from Apocalypse Reload. They build this Ork ship as a second battlefield for their game. I really liked this idea but I don't like Orks. Therefore building that ship was no option. Instead I came up with the idea I wrote already. But then I had to think about another problem. If I build a space Marine vessel which would not have any kind of decks there would be no possibility to play. But if one side of the ship was destroyed in the space fight already it would be ok. But I have one huge problem. How big are those space cruisers, frigates and so on they created for Battlefleet Gothic? I found pictures like this: Space Marine Strike Cruiser If I look at this picture I would say that the vessel could only be four times as big as a Thunderhawk especially considering the weapons this model contains. But in my opionion that would be too small for those said-to-be huge vessels. Has anyone of you an idea of how big those ships are? MagicMan
Heres a little size guide. http://www.deviantart.com/download/82219217/Battlefleet_Gothic_Scale_Chart_by_The_First_Magelord.png Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229313-battlefield-creation/#findComment-2750933 Share on other sites
Leonaides
What he said (in pictures). Even the smallest Imperial ship is going to be far bigger than a normal battlefield: rough calculations: 1 inch = 2 meters, 1ft = 24m, 4ft = 100m, so that Cobra Destroyer would be something like 40ft long to scale (assuming an approximate length of 800m nose to tail). I'd suggest making several boxes of 'industrial/mechanical' scenery (say each one is 12" square), with fairly standard entry points/joins to allow for movement/firing through them and that way you can alter the internal configuration of your ship from battle to battle rather than fighting the same terrain every time. Master Barachiel
thank you very much. Although the non-metric units are a little confusing for me as a German, I think I got your point, Leonaides. I guess building a whole Cobra Class would be too big for any game even for Apocalypse. But I think about creating wreckage of such a ship. A Cobra Class destroyer which is broken into 2 pieces. It would be possible to create about 13 ft of that ship (two thirds of that ship), I think. If I should be able to build it I will paint the broken parts in the back of the ship like glowing metal. I think that will look quite good. But first it will be much of work  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229313-battlefield-creation/#findComment-2750978 Share on other sites

Master Barachiel
once again, thank you. That are pretty cool things they offer on these sites but they are also pretty expensive. Most things can be done easier and cheaper which might of course look not as good as those professional things then. Well, another aspect I want to include in my terrain is the 3rd dimension. I want some more decks than just one. The battlefield should not be just one deck but the whole ship just like they did with the Ork ship in Apocalypse reload (everybody who read the book will know what I mean). But I will soon post a WIP on this project. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229313-battlefield-creation/#findComment-2751546 Share on other sites
MagicMan
I guess treat the upper decks as two story buildings on a normal board. You'll have to be clever enough to leave hand access to both levels though, if you wanted to do that.
