snorkle
Totally. I went through all the HH books in a couple of weeks and then took nearly two months for A Thousand Sons. But it was definitely worth it in the end. Some great scenes it just takes a while to get going. Ethrion
At the moment I'm really struggling through A Thousand Sons, is it worth me plodding on through? Seriously?? You're finding A Thousand Sons hard going? I found it one of the best ones. I would say yes it is worth persevering with. tiberium40k
At the moment I'm really struggling through A Thousand Sons, is it worth me plodding on through? Which page are you on? When I read it, only the Aghoru part was a chore to read. It definately becomes worth reading once they leave the planet. gil galed
Thought ATT was one of the best books of the series, it plus Fulgrim and The First Heretic... actually I suppose I just love them all, but yes it was good. Persevere, the end is good (and sad)! I am however currently struggling through prospero burns, really does nothing for me atm... ~Gil :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229371-thousand-sons/#findComment-2751863 Share on other sites

Codicier Lucion
Yeah, the first part of the book is heavy going but once you get to the fight against corrupted Eldar titans things start getting a lot better. Ethrion
I felt that while 'not much' specifically happens at the start of A Thousand Sons it was more about giving us a filled out background and some real depth to the Thousand Sons which had been lacking in the fluff up until that point. It might have been 'slow' but I think it was a necessary 'slow'. Describing how Magnus prepares the council by psychically shielding it and how the sorcerers rise through the enumerations to reach higher levels of enlightenment and control to name a couple. Plus how awesome was it when they were cleaning their bolters with their minds - using 'the force' I thought it was epic cool! <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229371-thousand-sons/#findComment-2752035 Share on other sites
Reldn
Stick with "A Thousand Sons" it really does start to pick up. I'm also in the camp that loved "A Thousand Sons", but, couldn't even bring myself to finish "Prospero Burns". MagicMan
Definitely stick with it. Once they get past the whole ''Ooh this mountain is pretty nice.'' it gets a lot better. I found Prospero burns a huge snore-fest the first time i read through it as well, about until the time they started attacking that weird robot culture. Reading through both books again though, it was alot easier, and alot better. Morollan
There are a few negative comments about Prospero Burns but I actually thought it was pretty good, although the title really didn't fit the novel! I suspect there weren't enough Primarchs and explosions for some people though. Perrin
The starting bit of Prospero Burns is slow starting and the way the normal people living on Fenris speak with the double words started to annoy me and i thought the book wasnt going to be as good as i was expecting but i pushed on and it turned out to be really good. MagicMan
I liked it the second read through, but the first time i didn't really find the Kasper character interesting. I mean, personal dislikes aside (Leather Gimp masks for everyone, argggh vikings) it was just hard to be interested in the characters. Kasper was all over the place, and the Wolves themselves were fairly boring. Horus Rising wasn't chock full of explosions until they reach Murder (the False Emperor fight is comparable with the Viking-fight), but the characters were infinitely more interesting. Could just be me, though. Im not a huge fan of Space Wolves, they're alright. But then, i disliked marines in general until i read Horus Rising, so i don't think my personal preferences would've put much of a spin on it. I suspect there weren't enough Primarchs and explosions for some people though. Prospero Burns was about a character that was uninteresting, exploring uninteresting and one-to-two-dimensional (apart from a few clever jokes here and there) Space Marines. Abnett's take (which I normally enjoy) on the Wolves were way off from what I feel they should be and the plot 'twist' was seen coming almost 6 chapters in. Compared to ATT which started out slow and finished with a bang, Prospero Burns was dull all the way through. And no I don't enjoy books with just explosions and primarchs (Hunt for Voldorius and Battle for the Abyss can go burn themselves somewhere dark). Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229371-thousand-sons/#findComment-2752234 Share on other sites

Mykra
At the moment I'm really struggling through A Thousand Sons, is it worth me plodding on through? My favorite book of the Horus Heresy so far. (C'mon Blood Angeeeeels!) The first third of the book is a bit slower than most are used to as he really had to flesh out just how different the 1K Sons were compared to other chapters - which I'd say only the Space Wolves match them in unique configuration and sub-sects - and to showcase that unlike pretty much all the other crusading chapters the sons took their time, attempting to bring the worlds into peaceful compliance by working with the natives, and learning what they could from the worlds histories and libraries. The book shows how the chapter slowly goes to s*** though, and from Shrike onwards it really picks up steam towards a pretty nasty end. Perrin
Guys, could we please not bring PB in this? Bringin PB in this is fine. Thousand Sons, struggling Nope, I don`t see Prospero Burns here. But they are the same story told from two different sides... Well not really but they are supposed to be. Wouldn't be worth it to start a whole new thread. I liked ATT and PB, but i agree that PBs title sort of takes away from the story by being a LIE!! The part of PB when the main character and the wolf librarian are in a forest on a random planet trying to unlock the main characters mind. When he turns around and the librarian is gone was like so many horror films, it felt so real Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229371-thousand-sons/#findComment-2752638 Share on other sites
Zynk Kaladin
It picks up near the end for a bit like most HH books. Though it isn't my favorite, it was worth reading. Is it just me or are the more recent HH books a tad bit on the slow side?
