snorkle
I definitely went through the first several books faster than the last few. Though I gotta say that I loved Prospero Burns. I guess I just didn't really think too much about the title when I started reading it and didn't let the missing Prospero burning action and obvious plot turn me off. I thought Kaspar was the coolest remembrancer yet. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229371-thousand-sons/page/2/#findComment-2753063 Share on other sites
Billuriye
Nope, I don`t see Prospero Burns here. What do you see is irrelevant, PB and ATS however are relevant. In a thread that deals specifically with ATS, there is no reason to discuss the merits of PB. If the discussion was about the storyline, then maybe, but PB is not relevant when someone asks about weather ATS is worth reading. Smallboy
As the OP feel that I need to jump in here. Many thanks to all the replies it has inspired me to carry on reading, it does seem to be picking up. Thank you for all the comments about ATS and PB, but I have to say I did not ask about PB. Think it should just be left now. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229371-thousand-sons/page/2/#findComment-2753385 Share on other sites
Lord Ragnarok
If you need tons of fighting in every scene, I would not trudge through it, or PB. If you want to understand either Legion more, and understand why they arrive at their final destination, by all means keep reading. Thats exactly what I'm wanting, loving the back stories behind the different chapters and why some turned, some didnt and some hung around to see who was winning Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229371-thousand-sons/page/2/#findComment-2753390 Share on other sites

Azurine
A Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns give intimate insights into two polar opposite Legions. Both are well written with great characters. My personal favorites, but I understand why the more action oriented reader might find both slow going. I've read them twice... just because. ATS is my favourite HH novel so far with PB being a close second. Haha, same here. Except I for one am not an action oriented reader and I absolutely detest the entire setup and characters in PB (brutally said: if you have read Legion, you've read PB, only PB is worse) and had difficulties with ATS's beginning. But I am all for agreeing to disagree, we can't all have the same taste, but to lump everyone who dislike the books into the "action loving crowd" is demeaning. <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229371-thousand-sons/page/2/#findComment-2757620 Share on other sites

I personally found 'Prospero Burns' even more so than 'A Thousand Sons', but both are well worth the time as I am a fluff-nugget miner. I didn't mean to insinuate that 'an action oriented reader' is anything but 'an action oriented reader'. As I don't generally do any 'lumping' as a rule, how this was perceived as demeaning in some way is beyond me. Your fear at being labelled as such may incite the 'action oriented' crowd, however. :) ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229371-thousand-sons/page/2/#findComment-2757838 Share on other sites
Pulse
Abnett should stick to IG novels (which is does barely adequately) and leave the tales of Space Marines to the new breed who can write Space Marines well, people like A D-B. Although saying that i enjoyed Horus Rising and Legion very much. Anyway... back on topic. Thousand Sons is very slow paced and i felt the author wrote in a very poor way - mismashing cultures to form a blob of crap and didn't seem to detail things very well. Not great but it does shed a bit of light on to the TS. All in all.. Graham McNeill = Numpty.
