SW player endgame

Recommended Posts

As a Wolf player, what do you wish for in the long run for the game and this hobby? is it to collect all the minis? convert? collect and hope for more fluff? or will you stop collecting once you have a great company?

I think mine would be.... to be a great space wolf general. Tournament wise, I'd love to one day be one of the top ten best tournament players in North America. I think I want to be known as that girl, with the space wolf army. And to e honest, I can't see myself playing any other army! so what are your goals as a wolf player?

Does it really ever end?

I've left this game twice now, first time for 15 years, second for 3. In between I've moved from the UK to Australia, bought and sold one house and am currently building another. I've always played Marines and the wolves. I tried Tyranids once and after spending way too much money on boxed sets only ever built half a Carnifex......

I don't think I will ever stop playing, I may take a break now and again but I just keep coming back.

At the moment my goal's are.

Actually learn the rules once and for all (before they change them again)

and

Come up with some fluff for my ex 13th company army.

Other than that, I'm quite happy converting models I'll probably only use once or twice and adding those finishing touches to my minis that never seem to end....

I just want to build a single great company for myself. My passion with this game is really in the painting/converting though. I've also left this game once for a few years. New models get made, old models go OOP. With new models, there's sometimes new rules or errata, etc and wargear becomes obsolete or modified, causing me to build new compositions to suit. In short, I don't think I'll ever be finished building an army. In the meantime, I'm content with the models I have and what few commissions I get that help keep my painting diverse enough to keep me interested.

what I wish for in the long run? being able to field 13 full great companies ^_^

ooh, and figuring out how to actualy play to win. I usualy get way to distracted by fluffyness (both in scenery and armylists) that I tend to forget about actualy winning the game (who cares about objectives?)

To have a collection of Wolves I'm happy with, along with fully modeled battlefields (cityfighting for at least one army) with their scenery. I would love to read more tales of the Wolves, whether they are of the dark and murderous Wolves or the more friendly ones I really don't care, its all good. I currently have two Great Companies on the go and would love to finish these up. One is a Heresy Era Morkai's company for lots of sneaky goodness and my other project is a 40K Redmaw Company as I love the fluff of him, the model GW did for the release WD and of course, rumours that IA XI will feature his Company.

I'd love to field an Epic Legion of the Space Wolves, to represent much larger battles. Battlefleet Gothic is another system I'd be interested in collecting a SW force in.

I don't think I'll ever be able to finish my time with the Wolves until I reach the grave, so much to do.

after 23 years it dosn't end the units are alterd or replaced the company go's on as is the fun although the wolves have changed over the years there still the same if that makes sence well mostly its all soul for me from rt through the wolftime campaign to ichar iv ,armagedon the 13th crusade and medusa v too today of the next ubar codex my wolves meet the challange and take names ,when i walk into my local gw i get a lot of respect just for the amount of time iv been around thats nice but not why i play the wolves i play em because i always have and always will by russ now weres the beer

One of my priorities this year is the completion of my wolves army - hopefully this summer when my uni year ends in a few weeks. It's about half painted already and it really needs finishing.

As much as I would like to think I won't buy anything more for my beloved Wolves, I'd probably be lying. Mythicast just keep making more stuff I want to buy.

Endgame order currently is:

a) Paint the rest of my stuff

 Finally actually make my mind up on what model I want to make for my Wolf Lord.

c) Write their fluff background out fully - I have the basic idea, just not the whole idea fleshed out.

After I'm done with a 2000 point Wolves army I'm happy with, I'll move on to painting/creating new armies. Finish my Orks and Imperial Guard, probably. Plus I build and paint 400 point Combat Patrol armies for every new release for the school club I run - keeps me busy and gives variety.
Just to have fun. There really is no set goal for me, I enjoy the modelling and painting, and the occasional friendly game. I just wan't to have fun, having a whole great company or some other thing is just an achievement that if I get it, great, If not, oh well.

I asked myself this on Saturday while running Free Comic Book Day at my shop. I will, admittedly, build a second army, Necrons most likely. I can't bring myself to build any other SM army, I'd want to do something completely different, and on the evil side.

But with my wolves, I'm sitting at or over 4k points now, and I'm not even close to done yet. I'll stop when I have everything in spades. I still need a second Land raider, 4 more razor/rhino, 4 more pods, 2 Vinds, 2 Preds, 2 whirlwinds and 8 more thunderwolves + about 25 Fenris wolves, another long fangs squad, speeders, more bikers and jump packs. I want to be able to sit down to make a list, and be able to put together any combination I want. And, in the case of an Apoc game, I want to be able to throw down everything, all at once and bring the power of the Fang to bare!!!

When necrons come out I'll probably start an army because they have great conversion opportunities however I can't see me swapping out my regular tournament army from the wolves.

I constantly try and evaluate what I'm doing to make sure

1. I'm getting the most out of my army and

2. they are fun to use.

I want to finally have my sw army fully painted. After that I want to start and complete my other three favorite armies(3). Relictors, Red Corsairs and then GK's, And someone in between complete a all termie SW force. (current force is a Drop Pod list with GH's and RP's and LF's.

When my armies are done I want to be in "maintenance" mode where I update them based on codex/rule book changes periodically. I want to be able to play at least twice a month. (barely time with family and work).

Space Wolves are my third army after Eldar and Tau. I'm enjoying the Space Wolves at the moment because they have a completely different playstyle compared to those two, and the conversion/painting opportunities are a lot of fun. When the new Tau codex comes out, I'll probably drift back that way for a bit.

Ultimately, I like having a variety of armies at my disposal. It keeps things interesting, and gives me something to break up the monotony of painting the same colors constantly. I won't likely be "finished" with any of my armies any time soon.

The game encompasses so many different type of player. I think those that stick with one army are a fairly rare breed, holding up one end of the scale in comparison to bandwagoners at the other. Somewhere in the middle is the majority of gamers, who will field multiple armies to keep things fresh.

You never really finish an army. A better way of looking at it is what goal do you want to achieve with the army as a player and painter. If your a painter/converter then more likely you will change armies and projects frequently. I know I can only paint so much grey before I need a break. Gamers will likely run a few lists before they too crave a change of pace.

I run two marine armies, Raven Guard and Wolves. Both are different enough to keep me interested on and off the game table. I'd like to win big tournaments with both for sure. Size wise I don't see either going past 4k though. I've won painting comps with both so have that box checked, as well as playing in super fluffy campaigns.
