Building new terrain from styrofoam

Recommended Posts

Hi all! Posting some pics from my ongoing terrain-building project. All the blue parts are stryofoam and the rest is random pieces of plastic, and some GW parts. I´ll be painting next weekend...

First, everything

Thank you. I dont have any WIP-pics, but I´ll describe the process. I slice the styrofoam in 10-15mm slices with a bandsaw. It gives a great, concrete-like texture. I then use a hobby-knife, cutting board, and steel ruler, and cut boards for the different parts of the buildings, roads, and pillars. They are glued together with pva-glue (stronger stuff will melt the styrofoam). Cracks, bullet holes, and general wear and tear ar created with the knife, my hands, and a tweezer (for bullet-holes). The cracks are made with the blunt back of the knife blade. The detailing are made with some GW-parts, but mostly random plastic stuff that I´ve colected. I advice you to take apart a printer -lots of to-scale-machinery in there :-)

That bridge is brilliant! Although, it would look a little odd to have 2 supports in the middle of the table with a single fallen span between them, maybe you should build a(t least one) ramp section to join the bridge back with ground level? Or enough bridge sections (either with complete spans or fallen in) to cross the width of a standard board? That would be amazing!

The other bits are very cool too, love the objectives!

Sandbags could be a possibility. Makeshift Imperial defenses, stubber nest, strewn weapons and ammo boxes etc.

Another tip; wall filler. Makes great concrete effects!

Looking good though! :)
