All deepstriking lists

In the fluff GK are more often than not described as deepstriking into a warzone, eliminating a target and teleporting out. However, in 5th edition 40k mech is king. I've been running a 2 raider 4 razorback 2 dread rock list and have done really well with it, but now want to see what sort of fluffy list I can run. By fluffy I mean a list in which all GK elements deepstrike. That means no puries, purgation, techmarines or brotherhood champs unless they are in a DS Raven (for the purposes of fluff, let's assume that non-gk elements dont need to DS). Can it be done competitively? number6, I'd be especially interested in your input, as well as that of any player who already does it. :)

Personally I was thinking;

Libby (stick, 3 skulls, 4 powers): 220

2 x 5 Terminators (1 psycannon): 450

3 x 5 GKSS (1 psycannon): 330

5 Interceptors (1incinerator, 1 daemonhammer): 160

3 x Dreadknights (great sword, teleporters): 690

That comes to 1850.

Thats why Mordrak is in the army list.

Mordrak, with some ghost knights, attach librarian.

Have one or two units deployed, anywhere really, and pull them with the summoning.

Deep strike in turn two the remaining forces.

I play an army like this, and it works really well.

This is how I roll, deepstriking into the fray to kick arse and take names for the Emperor.

I have 2 main lists for 2k deep striking.

The first is a no nonesense, low-model count, headhunter force. It's built around a 10 man paladin squad led by a GM and a pair of 10 man GKT squads armed with halberds.

The trick is to wrap subtlety around a brick and throw it through the other guy's window. Pick a sectio of his army, beeline it and demolish it. Against deathstar based lists, tis tactic is deadly. There is no death star in the game that can take on a a paladin squad and two GKT squads at once.

The second is a more flexible force, I replace the pladins with 10 falchion interceptors and an 8 man Purgation squad. It's fluffy because the purgation squad's job is to put a homer down and guide the spearhead in.

I've been working on an all-DS list at 1750pts. Here's what I've got:

GKGM w/ Psycannon, 2x servo-skulls

GKT (10-man) w/ 2x Psycannons, 2x NDH, 8x NFH, Psybolts

GKT (10-man) w/ 2x Psycannons, 2x NDH, 8x NFH, Psybolts

GKSS (10-man) w/ 2x Psycannons, 2x NDH, Psybolts

GKIS (10-man) w/ 2x Psycannons, 2x NDH, Psybolts

41 models, 5-9 kill points (as needed), each unit can handle most targets, skulls act as "homers" for the DS'ers, etc.

Can Psychic Communion be used/cast while GM/Mordrak is locked in CC?

Yes

The Librarian you have listed here only comes to 185 pts.

But, but, Ghost Knights can't take Psycannons!! Mordrak doesn't have Rad Grenades!!!

...ahem..I mean, excuse me.

;)

Ok, now I will answer it seriously. Take one less ghost and instead get an Inquisitor in TDA with a psycannon for 80 points, a mere 40 point upgrade. He attaches to the ghost squad and drops in with them. Spend another 9 points for servo skulls to help your fellow deep strikers. Possibly spend another 30 points and (assuming they stack) you can get two Psychic Communions.

Also, Mordrak may not have grenades, but he has a freaking retinue and can possibly generate more of them! Mordrak is definitely not horrible like people are making him out to be... for a list of mostly deep striking, or all deep striking, he makes sense.

yes but mordrak and draigo provide different abilities. Mordrak can deepstrike in on the first turn without scatter, and you can attach something to him (lib, inq) which can help further reserves/deepstrikes. Draigo helps provide a 4 wound eternal warrior character with a 3++ save. generally used to absorb the instant death shots when attached to a squad of paladins ;)

I run a draigo wing (well, Im running one, only had 1 game so far). And I love it, I am intending to try out a deep strike list with mordrak at some point (a libby is nice, but is rather costly while an inq provides a psycannon/psychic communion).

I have tested the following list:

Libby w/ halberd, shrouding, might of titan, warp rift, teleport homer

Vindicare

2x 10 GKSS w/3 halberds, 2 Psibolters, Hammer on Justicar

1x 10 GKSS w/4 halberds, 2 Psibolters, halberd on Justicar

5 GKIS w/ Incinerator Halberd on Justicar

5 GKIS w/ Incinerator Hammer on Justicar

2x 5 Purgation w/ 2x Incinerator 2x Psibolter, Teleport homer on Justicar, in Rhino

The mixtures stem from the fact that I don't have enough models to just MSU everything in the same outfit.

Worked quite well so far although I still have to learn how to use these guys to their max effect.

Had a funny game against Vanilla SM. The vindicare first took the SS and a wound of the termi-libby which in the following cc round cost his life due to the worse invul save, next turn the vindi blew up a land raider with a 17 on the damage roll :). The following turn the assassin died to a multimelta shot even though he went to ground in a ruin. Rolling 1's when havin a 2+ cover save just is so typical...

All in all I think GK deepstrike armies can work out well. I have already tinkered with some Mordrak lists that basically develop around a core of Mordrak w/ Ghost Knights and the Libby with a teleport homer.
