asmodai650
Here's the teaser link for Gav Thorpes entry into the series. If the cover is any indication, it should be awesome. Lord Ragnarok
Yeah, the cover has been out for awhile. I like his candid assessment of his current status. I'm eagerly awaiting this book as his Raven Guard short stories were very good IMHO. Brother Kirus
I fear that it would be painful to read. He is good at writing short stories for magazine but not as a novel writer. Too bad, Corax is an interesting character and in a hands of a good writer this novel could have been amazing… Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229469-deliverance-lost/#findComment-2754630 Share on other sites

Brother Nihm
More like talking from experience I'm guessing (and I agree with him). :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229469-deliverance-lost/#findComment-2754637 Share on other sites
Midgard
Based on two of Thorpe's novels I've read ("Angels of Darkness" and "The Purging of Kadillus") and the short story in the "Age of Darkness" omnibus, I am a bit concerned about "Deliverance Lost". To me, his writing feels a bit dry, and his characterizations tend to produce rather bland and uninteresting characters (although your mileage may vary). While I will still probably end up buying "Deliverance Lost", I feel that Gav Thorpe has a lot to prove with this novel, and as a result I don't have very high expectations. I really do hope he proves me wrong though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229469-deliverance-lost/#findComment-2754755 Share on other sites
Azurine
Angels of Darkness was the only novel I had trouble getting through... Normally I don't give an author a second reading. In this case, however, I'll make an exception considering it's a key part of the series. Hopefully he'll spark my interest. Edit. Wrong book, lol. jamsight
I am sure he'll do fine I have the Raven Guard audio and I enjoy listening to it. if Angels of Darkness was the second DA heresy book I enjoyed that too I don't think there is anything too be worried about as far to see if he can deliver. if I've got the books mess up please forgive me because it's late and it was a while ago that I read it. Prathios
As with a lot of 40k novels, I will read this regardless of how good it ultimately is... Black Library know if they put that wonderful shiny black cover on it, I'll buy it. But Gav isn't that bad, it is a bit dry but I think there are a lot of worse writers. I kinda wish we could get Sandy Mitchel in on this series, not sure his humorous writing style would fit but dang are his reads enjoyable. Dorian
I'm really looking forward to Deliverance Lost. I enjoy Gav's writing style a lot. Angels of Darkness is among my favourite 40k novels so I highly doubt he'll disappoint me when it comes to the Raven Guard. Icee77
Hmmmmmm, Since I already preordered the book, I really want the book to be good. And since this is the first "official" Raven Guard book, I have even higher expectations. KP13
it looks like their will be alpha legion in it too. Same here, as it features my two favorite Legions, I'm hoping for good showings for both. No mustache twirling cartoon villainy ala THE HUNT FOR VOLDORIUS and "The Long Games at Carcharias" for the Alpha Legion would be nice... Jim Shady
I enjoy GT books. The Sundering series was fantastic, I couldn't put the books down! Looking forward to this, hopefully it'll tie in with his short story in Age of Darkness.
