Slider Da Feral
I picked up a box of Death Company minis last week, and want to use them as my "Black Brothers". My question is this: would drybrushing black on top of yellow give me that soot-stained effect I'm looking for, or will it make the minis look like a collective bag of hammered ;) ? Redfinger
I would avoid drybrushing such a contrasting color on yellow, I don't think it will turn out right...You could try using an oil based paint mixed with a little artists wax, but I would practice quite a bit first. Another option would be weathering pigments, but those tend not to react well with sealer and handling.....other than that it is hard to make any further recommendation with out knowing what look you are going for, do you have a picture in mind? JayeL
What shade of yellow are we talking about, is it a bright yellow e.g. Sunburst Yellow or is it a more muted yellow/ochre e.g. Iyanden Darksun. I have no experience with bright yellows but I have used weathering pigments on my Lamenters for which the basecoat is Iyanden Darksun. I have never had a problem with using weathering pigments and the Forgeworld ones seem to adhere well to my figures and can be sealed with varnish quite easily. Here is an example of a Razorback I painted and applied weathering pigments to, the efects are quite subtle but if you look closely around the exhausts you can see the effects of the black soot weathering powder I used there: http://www.coolminiornot.com/277222 Hope this helps, John Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229490-soot-effects-on-yellow-pa/#findComment-2753717 Share on other sites
swiftyboy2
Try lightly stippling chaos black (very lightly), then again stipple very lightly with scorched brown. SCC
Have you thought of using weathering powders? They're perfect for things like soot and rust. MiG do a great line and I've heard good things about the ForgeWorld powders too.
