Durfast Champion of Mordrak

Mordrak was once home to an advanced alien race that was obsessed with time. They spent eons unravelling the mysteries of the temporal tides, only to vanish and leave their world a dead husk. It was eventually discovered by the explorators of the Adeptus Terra, and the Techno-priests of the Omnissiah immediately saw the importance in this world. Numerous expeditions were launched to recover the alien artifacts and the Space Wolves were assigned to defend the recovery attempts.

Mordrak lay deep within Ork dominated space however and without warning a large force of the greenskins arrived to harry the Imperial forces. The Tech-priests feared the Orks would discover the alien technology and manage to replicate it and use it against the forces of man. A desperate race against time began as the expeditionary forces attemptd to recover the alien technology before the growing Ork forces eveloped the planet and claimed the temporal powers for themselves.

It was during these intense battles that Durfast won the title of Champion of Mordrak and his place in the sagas of the Space Wolves. There were many important sites across the large world and the Space Wolves found themselves spread thin. Durfast had been given command of three packs to protect the dig site known only as Alphanex. Here the Orks had amassed in the hundreds only to be cut down to the last by the Space Wolves and their allies.

He later led the remnants of his Wolf Lord, Hurlgarl, deep into the labrynthine catacombs beneath the Betan mountains to hunt down the remaining Ork forces. The fighting in the pitch black and almost claustrophobic catacombs was savage and bloody. But deep in the mountains heart they discovered a massive complex dedictated to the sciences of time. Many Space Wolves were killed, but after thirteen days and nights Durfast and three other survivng Space Wolves made it back to the surface. They had escaped just in time as the complexes self destruct sequence ran out and the labrinths deep within the mountains imploded in upon themselves, ensuring the Orks would never see the light of day again.

Of all the artifacts recvoered from Mordrak only one escaped the clutches of the Tech-priests. The Temporal Distortion Cicuit, discovered by Durfast himself deep in the complex beneath the Betan Mountains. After returning to the Fang Durfast had the circuit built into his helmet. Utilizing the Mordrakian Temporal technology Durfast has the uncanny awareness of the immediate past, the present and the immediate future. Its precognitive abilities guides Durfasts hands allowing him to anticipate his enemies movements.

Wolf Guard Battle Leader Durfast of Mordrak

WS: 5 BS: 5 S: 4 T: 4 W: 2 I: 4 A: 3 Ld: 9 Sv: 3+ Inv: -- Pts: 130

Wargear: Helm of Durfast, Bolt Pistol, Power Axe, Power Armor, Frag and Krak grenades, Wolf Tail Talisman, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Saga of Majesty

Special Rules: And They Shall Know No Fear, Acute Senses, Counter-attack

The Helm of Durfast: This helm contains a Temporal Distortion Circuit that enables Durfast to spot enemies hiding in cover. No model may take cover saves against shots fired by Durfast (this unique ability is NOT conferred to a unit lead by Durfast), also no enemy infiltrators may be placed within 12 inches of Durfast. Furthermore the helms predictive interface guides Durfasts hands, effectively knowing where the targert will be and when. Reroll all failed attack rolls made by Durfast (ranged and close combat).

EDIT: Fixed statline

EDIT: Changed Wolf Pelt to Tooth Necklace, and added Saga of Majesty

The rules for the Helm feel wrong to me. Say I'm behind a giant plasteel wall taking a cover save. Is this helm suddenly going to allow him to bend bullets? Based on the original design, I would simply update it to work identical to a Chooser of the Slain, with obvious exclusions, such as indestructible, immovable, etc.

For additional equipment, I'd personally give him a frost axe and at the very least a boltgun, if not a stormbolter, considering the value his helm offers his ranged weapon attacks. Also, I'd give him either Warrior Born or Beastslayer saga and probably nix the wolf tail talisman.

1. The Wolf Pelt isn't in the codex anymore - what rules do you wish to use for it?

2. Do you mean Wolf Tail Talisman or Wolf Tooth Necklace?

Yup I meant the Tooth Necklace chalk that up to typing while sleepy.

Well if your behind a giant plasteel wall Durfast probably doesnt have line of sight. However if your behind a waist high plasteel wall or in the trees where Durfast can trace a line of sight to you then youre not gonna get your cover save because his helm practically tells him exactly when youre going to pop out of cover to take a shot. Furthermore why steal the rules from our Rune Priests when Ive got a perfectly good template to start from? Namely, the Helm of Durfast from the 2nd ed Codex.

I felt at the time (as I do now) that 5 attacks on the charge/counter at strength 5 with rerolls would make the model a bit more over powered than was necessary. My goal is to create working and balanced rules for characters we no longer have access to for house games with friends. As for the Sagas weve already got a rhino full of special characters with sagas however if I was going to give him one it would definately be Saga of Majesty. With his fluff (original 2nd ed and my own version) I feel it fits him better than either of those. Here is a Wolf who can acheive anything and inspire those around him to equal greatness; that just screams Majesty.

Wolf Guard Ranulf

Ranulf was said to be the largest of all the Space Wolves, broader of chest and mightier of arm than even Russ himself. His massive terminator armor stands on display in the hall of heroes to his very day, towering over all who gaze upon its titanic proportions. It is said Ranulf enjoyed displaying his might in wrestling bouts and other shows of pure strength. Ranulf performed many great feats of strength throughout his career, and is even acreditted to having pushed the wrecked hull of a land raider into a lava flow to allow his battle brothers to escape the molten river of fire.

Ranulfs death is a story told in great detail and with both great sorrow and great pride; for his death marked the day the Orks would learn to fear the Space Wolves. The forces of Ranulfs Wolf Lord were retreating through a narrow mountain pass following a rare and savage defeat at the hands of the Orks. As the Orks caught up with the rearguard of the retreating forces Ranulf and his packmates made a desperate stand againts the orks to buy precious time for their brothers to escape. As the orks approached the ground literally shook from the stomp of thousands of boots and the walls of the pass echoed with their warcries. Greatly outnumbered the space wolves managed to use the narrow pass to their advantage, keeping the orks trapped in a choke point so that only a handful could get through at any given time. As the hours passed the Space Wolves had piled hundreds of ork bodies like a massive wall that blocked out the setting sun. But even the space wolves couldnt hold out forever, and one by one Ranulfs wolf guard fell to the greenskins until finally only he remained.

The fight Ranulf gave the orks was legend in itself, it is believed that he doubled the number of ork kills alone after his packmates had fallen. The evidence to this massacre points to fact rather than fiction as when the Space Wolves returned to gather their fallen they the found Ranulf and his packmates bodies, not dfiled as would be expected from orks but rather enshrined within thrones hastily made from the countless ork corpses and wargear. To the space wolves Ranulf was a champion, but to his enemies he had become nothing short of a god.

Wolf Guard Raulf

WS: 5 BS: 4 S: 5 T: 4 W: 2 I: 4 A: 2 Ld: 9 Sv: 2+ Inv: 5+ Pts: 150

Wargear: Terminator Armor, Storm Bolter, Power fist, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Saga of the Bear

Special Rules: And They Shall Know No Fear, Acute Senses, Counter-attack, Great Strength

Great Strength: So strong is Ranulf that his attacks threaten to crush bones to powder and burst organs like balloons, and thats without his mighty power fist and invincible armor. For every hit Raulf scores in close combat he inflicts two wounds (each of these wounds is allocated appropriately to the same model the attack was made against).
