Magnor
Hello, New to the forums and well not new to wolves but not real experienced either. I am in the processes of a rebuild after being away from the game for a while. To be honest, the new wolves were released and it rekindled my spirits to play again.... then I found out the 13 company was gone. That aside I for one am really happy with the new Codex (well not so new now). Anyways, I digress. Here is my question. I like to build squads that can stand against any foe (if possible). The one way I have done this is to add 1 meltagun, two plasmaguns, 1 plasma pistol, and 1 powerfist to each of the 2 squads I have finished. Have I gone to far? Ah, yes in case it affects opinions I right now have Canis and Ulrik for HQ choices. Thanks for your help in advance. Kassill
As far as I am aware, you can only have 2 special weapons. So you could only field 2x Plasma, PP, PF, or Meltagun, Plasma gun, PP, PF, etc etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229591-squad-overkill/#findComment-2755409 Share on other sites

You can only have 2 ranged special weapons per 10 gh's. well, unless you field 10 gh and 1 wolf guard, then you'd have 2 specials and a combi. Magnor
really????......... looks like army builder failed me again :P not really suprised though. Alright I will keep the 2 plasmaguns and 1 plasma pistol since they are already close to being done. Maybe I can put the meltagun in another squad.... Nrthstar
Seriously, 40 bucks for Army Builder, I don't get it. I know it's nice that it puts all the special rule explanations under the stats, but I paid 3 bucks on my droid for Army Creator, it prints out the exact same thing just without the special rules and updates at a decent rate. Grey Mage
My pen and pad is always up to date. As for the 13nth company- theres a number of players who have found the current C:SW capable of fielding a good aproximation of a 13nth company force. You might give it a try. Magnor
I agree Gray Mage, but I am either to lazy or get confused in the math. J/K in honesty, we do not have a GW store in the area so where we play at requires a print out from Army builder. Kind of a bad idea when it fails like it does. J/K in honesty, we do not have a GW store in the area so where we play at requires a print out from Army builder. Kind of a bad idea when it fails like it does. Considering Ive encountered players who have deliberately changed the files that army-builder works off of in order to squeeze extra points into a list, this is a horrible idea. Just curious.. why does the lack of a GW store necessitate Army Builder printouts? Some people mistakenly believe that this volunteer provided service guarantees 100% accuracy. This is, as shown, not the case. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229591-squad-overkill/#findComment-2755522 Share on other sites
Grimtooth
I enjoy Army Builder for a couple of reasons; 1. I like to list build whenever I like with whatever army I like. Gets kinda addicting actually. 2. Some of the newer features has allowed me to personalize the look of my lists pretty well with runes for each squad printed out for them and of course the custom font feature. 3. Just ease of use despite the occasional error, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229591-squad-overkill/#findComment-2755596 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
2. Some of the newer features has allowed me to personalize the look of my lists pretty well with runes for each squad printed out for them and of course the custom font feature. I have to admit, that does sound pretty nice. Its been a few years since I played around with it- I do most of my list building in my head- for fun or profit. Kassill
Yeah, I remember having to explain to a guy at a tourney once why my Chosen squad had certain weapons, but he was saying that when he put my list into Army Builder for the people running the event to look over it was saying I couldnt do what I did, even though I could. It's a nice program, but I have to agree with GM about the pen and pad. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229591-squad-overkill/#findComment-2755627 Share on other sites

This would sell me, but I can just use army creator, and paste in my own designs. I originally downloaded because i can't carry my codex into work, but I can be on my phone non stop. Right, but I still don't understand why it's "required" because of no GW store. Don't get me wrong, I have Army Builder and use it, but as you said, a pen and pad (and the codex) is all you truly "require". The TO could decide it was required for a person to use MS Excel if they wanted to. *shrugs* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229591-squad-overkill/#findComment-2755694 Share on other sites
Forté
Still pen and paper here too. Old school. Some times use Excel. That Android app is tempting. As for the squad, lose the plasma pistol. Over priced for such a short range. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229591-squad-overkill/#findComment-2755706 Share on other sites
Bergelmir
I some times throw in a plasma pistol on a 2 plasma gun GH squad. just for some plasma S7 AP2 hunting fun. 10 GH, 2 plasma guns, 1 plasma and banner Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229591-squad-overkill/#findComment-2755853 Share on other sites
Forté
Consider this though. The pistol cost more than the plasma gun. Has half the range. Shoots once unless you don't move and cost the same as a grey hunter. I know where my points would go. Looks like Army Creator requires you to create your own files for the units stats etc or find them from someone who did. Battlescribe is a free app that have their config files on their website. Lord Ragnarok
The pen and paper talk makes me laugh. AB is great for those who have demanding work and kiddies. Saves tons of time(and uses less trees) Army Builder has never failed me, and I've never had it give me three specials for my space wolves. Are you sure you are using the correct/latest files? Magnor
Yeah, I have the latest version and updates. Running a 10-man and it would let me take 2 PG and an MG. Not to mention the PP and PF. Guess I broke the program :P Also they required the lists to be done on army builder so that they were readable and "accurate" to what was allowed in your list. On that note, if they are using army builder as the final authority on valid lists..... I guess I could play a broken one. I mean Army Builder said I could do it. Problem is.... I just can't do that. Pen and paper would work for me, I just do not have the time. With work and kids, I found the Army Builder a great time saver. The last two (last being the datafile with the GK info) block out more than three specials. In any case, to answer the original question. There is no overkill as you can only have x2 specials and on plasma pistol. I personally would only add plasma pistols in a drop pod alpha strike pack where you want them to hit with everything and the kitchen grot.
