They aren't called Grey Hunters because of their hair starting to go grey from old age. They are called "Grey" Hunters because they go out to hunt the grey wolves of the marshes as a right of passage for advancement from the ranks of Blood Claws.

Interesting. I've not read that, I assume it's from BL?

No, I don't read Black Library novels, I've never been interested. Please allow me to educate you, as it is clear that your knowledge of the Sagas is lacking:

Grey Hunters

Usually by the time Blood Claws develop their first grey hairs the fury of the Blooding has receded, leaving them cunning and rational, as wily and deadly as wolves. They can control the urge to get straight to grips with the foe and are ready for the next stage in their initiation into the Chapter. They are sent out into the Hyperborean Wastes that lie to the west of the Fang to kill a Grey Wolf. The Grey Wolves do not grow as large as a true Fenrisian Wolf, but are nonetheless vicious predators, so a duel with one is far from one sided, even for a Space Marine. The Grey Hunter is expected to run the beast down and break its neck with his bare hands. He returns with the pelt as proof of his victory. Usually some part of the wolf skin is incorporated into his ceremonial dress or worn as a lucky charm.

Extract from White Dwarf 246 article, Wolves of Fenris, released in conjunction with the 3rd Edition "mini-dex". The little codices of that era had little room for the fluff, so much of the background material was provided in WD articles in the months surrounding the release of a new codex and models.

Loremaster Valerian

Missed my opportunity to add this to the last post:

You are correct that the quote that you provided, and the one that I provided, mention their greying hair; However, according to Jervis, that isn't the reason they are called Grey Hunters.

Out of curiosity, how did you guys work the wolf head into his left shoulder pad? I really like the feel of the Gabriel Seth conversion and would love to give it a try myself.

I actually carved/hollowed out quite a bit from the Seth model's shoulder so the wolf head wasn't jutting out into space like it would have...carved a decent amount from the under/backside of the wolf head too. Then I chopped off the ears to re-position with GS.

Basically, you want it in far enough to where the back ridge of the chin meets the bottom rim of the shoulder and the top of the head lines up with the top rim.

Excellent, did you just use a dremel to hallow out Seths shoulder? Also what wolf head did you use?

Thanks for the help

I carved it by hand, but in retrospect, I should've used a dremel. I didn't completely hollow it out though.. I just kept carving and putting the head to the shoulder, recarving, to get it to fit right.

I used the wolf head helm from the SW pack box, as did DV8. Also in this thread, GraemePaul and Maximus-92 showed off their renditions, and it looks like they used the backpack/axe wolf head.
