Introducing Champion Mannix of the Second Purgatory Crusade

Hmm..I saw a very marble like effect on some tau veichles the other month, he said he'd started with a white undercoat and repeatedly added layer after layer of a wash and varnish. Wash. varnish. repeat. You could try that with the blackwash maybe?

Looking good. He's clean and crisp and the highlights on the black are nice and sharp. The cloth could do with more shading to give it definition though. Lots of thin layers are needed there to get it smooth, but it looks like you know what you're doing and just have to refine the techniques you use.

There are a few sites out there that show you how to do marble on miniatures and even more that show you how to do it on walls. Find one you like and give it a go on a spare model. I hope it works out. I'm planning to do a faux marble effect on a Land Raider, that's my summer project. In my head it looks awesome, but we'll see.......

great job brother.

Can anybody give me advice on how to paint a marbe effect for the base? I had a go but it didn't turn out that well

if your going for a white-ish marble, try with a skull white base, add some SW Grey and elf and dwarf flesh veins. when dry thin out some white, and I mean thinner than milk, see thru thin. wash the base until the veins are cloudy but visible. and then hit it hard with a glossy varnish or sealer. that's how I do it anyways.
