Psyker Bomber

I came up with what I consider an interesting tactic while playing around with the new codex. Take Coteaz and a librarian with The Summoning power, then a number of 6 man psyker squads. The librarian then uses The Summoning to deepstrike the psyker squads aggressively and they fire off a psychic barrage the following shooting phase, if they mishap or cook themselves, it was 60pts. It also leaves you with the option of buying chimeras for every psyker squad, which synergises well with a GKT army.

 

For example at 1750:

165pts Librarian (Summoning, Warp Rift, Might of Titan)

315pts 5 Paladins (2xPsycannon, 2xHalberd, 1xHammer)

265pts 6 GKT (Psycannon)

265pts 6 GKT (Psycannon)

195pts Dreadknight (Greatsword, Heavy Psycannon)

100pts Coteaz

115pts 7 Henchmen (6xPsykers, Mystic)

The librarian with the paladins and both GKT squads steal transports from the psykers.

 

I'm really enjoying the new codex, Coteaz henchmen armies have ALOT of potential for some really cool counts-as armies (genestealer cults, space skaven, PA pirates).

A few things to think about...

 

Why do you want to 'summon' the psykers across the table? Their barrage is 36' range and is classed as an ASSAULT weapon. Just move them base line and blast out some template love. I would be keeping as much range as possible.

 

I like the chimera idea. This transport has '5' fire points so you can just roll around moving 6 inches and shooting from range with the tanks weaponry and the barrage. My understanding is that you only need one psyker to have LOS so why not add in some servitors with HB x3 (with cortez also in the tank) and blast out a mighty 12 HB shots + 3 x Multilaser + Psyker blast (all 36' range) and cortez's fancy bird swoop attack adding d6 shots cutting in at 24' range and under? Or some other INQ with a hell rifle? The servitors and hell rifle are heavy so reduce movement but they are not overly expensive additions for ALOT more volume fire. Keep in mind though that this makes the chimera open topped when being shot at for damage table purposes???

 

Why not increase the model count to 8 psykers? get that all mighty str 10 and AP1?

 

If you were going for an aggressive ploy, I would be more inclined to go for a chimera with 5 plasma gun henchmen popping 10 shots off at rapid fire range (or meltaguns for a henchicide unit?). Its only 10 points more than your 'psyker unit' and is slightly more reliable (LD8 - 1 blast template at str8 AP1 with BS 3 vs 10 shots at str 7 AP2 with BS 3 with no LD check etc)

The biggest problem with the idea is depending on psyker powers to generate an important part of your offense. Psyker powers are simply not reliable enough to depend upon. They are easily shut down by several armies in the game. And furthermore, psyker henchmen only have a LD of 8, which is nowhere near high enough to pass with enough reliability to be tactically useful.
