The 40k Hobbiest
I deployed to Afghanistan in July of 2009. I'm an infantryman by trade, so I was constantly going places and doing things. Every once in a long while, I was able to steal a few days respite back at the base. Out of the graciousness of her love for me, my wife sent me a Space Wolf box set and the Warhammer 40,000 paint set. She also sent me a water pot, some magnifying glasses, a mixing palette, and a few other things to help get me started. The only rule was that I could only use the paints in the starter set. I couldn't borrow anything from my buddy (who also painted whenever we could). Needless to say, almsot every color on this model is a mix. After I returned back to the United States, I promptly sealed the model, keeping only what progress was completed in-country. Over the course of a year-long combat deployment to Afghanistan, I proudly present to you my Blood Claw. May he stand constant vigil over my fallen comerades. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ar2fiQOzm94/TdCHmsPIMaI/AAAAAAAAAIU/Iz7MXVBnCy0/s1600/Wolf%205.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jO_MleRm6UU/TdCHkK3wj4I/AAAAAAAAAIM/o5yzJUcib8c/s1600/Wolf%203.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PD485xsDdLg/TdCHkzEypWI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/og-2_xb2ffs/s1600/Wolf%204.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229879-my-space-wolf/ Share on other sites

FatMan
I like it. It looks “Comical” and somewhat old-school perhaps. Which is a nice touch. Good looking wolf there, I am sure in a unit this looks even more striking! kizzap88
I really like this model, and to consider that it was painted from just the starter set of paints! I like the description too, and I believe a very fitting reminder for your friends and comrades. -kizzap Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229879-my-space-wolf/#findComment-2759977 Share on other sites

Rogan
A very unique tribute. And the story behind it is epic - mind if I tell it my fellow students at the literature course (as soon as it comes to military stories)? Isiah
I love the very individualistic style of your painting The 40k Hobbiest, and your background story gives it an added flavor. Not at all. I'd really love to share the story of my time in Afghanistan. I want people to know what happened. If you'd like, you can PM me with any questions you may have so you can give your fellow students a more detailed explination.
