Grey Knight Painting

Recommended Posts

I began painting my Grey Knights and I wanted to try something different. I have a Storm Raven and several

metal knights.

I first basecoated them with Krylon Grey Primer, then sprayed a coat of Krylon Stainless steel. Next I am

highlighting with silver and paint shoulder guards etc.

I'll post some photos when completed...

Looks good, from what I can see, maybe hit them up with some badabnabbit black to give them a little definition, from the distance, you can't really see that they are metallic, which is cool... they look grey :tu:

I used a watered down blue ink for a steelish tint to armour...but I'll hit them with a black ink hit now.

Cool let us know when they are up! :)

I'll take some photos today..I just finished the bases with some gravel and a coat of krylon matte spray. I also have a

rhino that has been made for the GK. I also have a Land Raider that I have GK icons from FW waiting to be built.

Does the Stainless steel not have enough coverage to use as a base in itself? Or did you explicitly want grey primer in the deep areas? Personally I shy away from primer as it goes on too thick for my tastes. I'm interested in trying the Stainless steel from Krylon tho.

I guess I should of said "I lightly dust the items with grey primer". I tried without the primer and it made the figures too "steely" ie bright stainless

steel. With the grey primer it sort of mutes the steel IMO.

Interesting. The last silver/metallic spray paint I used was duller than boltgun metal (which I washed with after anyhow) for my first unit of GK...what two years ago now. Might base in black then (I love my krylon black). Thanks for the note, and the pictures!

I normally base in black also..but I wanted to try something different. I tried krylon silver and found it too bright IMO. The Krylon Stainless Steel looks

better to me. I washed it with black ink and they did pop a bit.

Yea, the silver spray paint I used wasn't Krylon's at the time; pretty sure it was Testor's. Not my usual brand of choice for anything, but at the time it was silver paint that was available in a spray can, and it looked better than just black krylon under boltgun metal.
