Centurion Tom
A few weeks ago I decided to make a chaplain for my Raven Guard. I wanted him to have a jump pack, but not use the standard model, nor stick a jump pack on a foot chaplain. Then I saw this fella on the GW site and an idea formed (I hope its ok to link to the GW site. GW site I'm not 100 percent sure if it will work but I thought I would give it ago. After it arrived I decided I only wanted the head so i got my saw out and a good hour later I was left with. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/Catesy2021/download6.jpg For the legs, I really wanted to use this guy somewhere in my army. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/Catesy2021/download.jpg I didn't think his torso would fit the image though, so I got creative with the saw again. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/Catesy2021/download4-1.jpg The elder ruin didn't really fit with the industrial theme the rest of my army will have so I cut it off and built my own more suitable base. I also decided to use the skull torso from the forge world red scorpion honor guard as it looked suitably chaplain-y. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/Catesy2021/download3.jpg I made a Crozius by sticking the top of one on to an axe, gave him a bolt pistol and that where I am. So C&C would be appreciated. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/Catesy2021/download5.jpg I need to fill in the gaps with green stuff, add some purity seals and give him some raven skulls but hes pretty much finished. Also he hasn't got his jump pack, which will be added after he has been painted. I'm thinking of using Korvydae's as it is light and wont make the model fall over, also it looks cool. I am open to suggestions on the jump pack however. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229941-raven-guard-chaplain/ Share on other sites
One-eye
Great result, really ! I always thought this torso was one of the best for a custom made chaplain, you proved it with talent. The pose is very good, the shoulderpad and helmet are perfect to fit the RG theme, and I think Korvidae's jumpack will be just perfect. Need to see it painted now ;p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229941-raven-guard-chaplain/#findComment-2760753 Share on other sites
Brother__Paulius
Excellent use of parts brother, that helmet is really fitting and he looks suitably chaplainy. I like the pose although I would maybe try and tilt his torso forward a bit more so it looks like he is poised to leap into his enemy. Might look even more menacing. This is going to look great with some paint on it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229941-raven-guard-chaplain/#findComment-2760759 Share on other sites
MagicMan
Awesome idea, and great use of parts. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229941-raven-guard-chaplain/#findComment-2760786 Share on other sites

swiftyboy2
That looks really cool so far man, and this is coming from someone who has absolutely no love for raven guard. Centurion Tom
Thanks for the comments guys. I have the day off work so I put some more work into him. I repositioned the arm as it didn't feel right, and made the Crozius less bulky on the top as it felt a bit unbalanced. I have also added a few trinkets and purity seals. Heres a few pics with Korvydae's jumppack on. I'm fairly happy with how he looks, I don't want to over complicate him. Any suggestions welcome. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/Catesy2021/IMAG0112.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/Catesy2021/IMAG0113.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/Catesy2021/IMAG0114.jpg Sorry for the poor quality pictures, will work on them. MagicMan
He looks fantastic! I'd reccomend painting the jump pack seperately and then sticking it on afterwards, though. Might make getting to the shoulderpads a bit tricky otherwise. Centurion Tom
Yeah I learnt that the hard way. Its currently stuck on with bluetac and will be painted separately. celes
I was undecided about the helm at first glance, but now you've added a rosarius and sorted out the crozius I'm decidedly more gung-ho about this mini. Get some paint on this bad boy! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229941-raven-guard-chaplain/#findComment-2761415 Share on other sites

Centurion Tom
Ive had a bit of progress on the chaplain. Still early but I thought I thought i would see what people think so far. I haven't done any highlight on the black yet. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/Catesy2021/IMAG0127.jpg Any suggestion the eye color? The rest of my army will have yellow eyes, but I thought maybe red would help define him as a Chaplain. Or would yellow help tie him in with the rest of the army? Also any tips on painting gold, I don't want it to be to bright. MagicMan
Looking good, but ive gotta say i think it'd look better with the back of the helm black. Would make the Raven skull aspect stand out alot more. DarKHaZZ13
I've got to be honest I thought it looked rubbish to start with. But now that helm is bone coloured, I gotta say it looks brilliant!! Just shows you what a lick of paint does to the feel of a model. Magic man makes a point though. I'd fade the bone to brown, and then to black towards the back of the helm....give it that 'death mask' feel which would suit it down to the ground. Keep it up! ++edit for crimes against the gods of typing++ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229941-raven-guard-chaplain/#findComment-2768270 Share on other sites
Centurion Tom
Thanks for the comments I am pleased with how he is going so far. MagicMan and DarKHaZZ13: Thats a good idea about having it black at the back, I think I just wanted to see what to looked like all bone but it doesn't really suit the helm. The bone is actually slightly darker IRL, but I think I will work to darken it. War Angel
my comment is a bit late as youve already painted it, but theres no jump pack harness. hows the pack stay on? what kind of saw did you use? ephrael
my comment is a bit late as youve already painted it, but theres no jump pack harness. hows the pack stay on? what kind of saw did you use? I believe that most of a Space Marine's equipment can be mag locked to his armor. I would assume that a jump pack could be mag locked as well or possibly it is a physical part of the back plate for a dedicated assault trooper's armor. I wouldn't dream of covering up the magnificent detail of the Forge World sculpt myself. Firepower
my comment is a bit late as youve already painted it, but theres no jump pack harness. hows the pack stay on? Through unyielding faith in the Emperor of Mankind, of course! That's just how chaplains role. Very cool work here, it never crossed my mind to make a beaky Chaplain, much less how fitting it would suit the RG. Between that and two sacrificial pewters+ a FW investment, it's easy to see how much you put into this guy ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229941-raven-guard-chaplain/#findComment-2768903 Share on other sites

Death Company and the metal Jump Pack Chaplain have no harness either, It's probably not needed. @OP Awesome model, excellent concept and flawless execution. The bird-skull helmet is an original idea. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229941-raven-guard-chaplain/#findComment-2769015 Share on other sites

I did think of using GS to put one on, but I noticed a few other jump pack models with out one so I decided against it. The saw is just a standard razor saw. MagicMan
Death Company and the metal Jump Pack Chaplain have no harness either, It's probably not needed. He uses chains to attach his jump pack because he's badass. But agreed on the fact that you shouldn't change your model just to add a jump pack harness. Hmm, I quite like the black eyes (unpainted), contrasts nicely with the helm, you could just put a little white dot at the back for the reflection, or if that's not really what you want I think red would be good for them. How do you mean you don't want a bright gold? dull, or dark? either way I would be tempted to give it a badab black wash. Centurion Tom
Whenever I paint gold it just looks really shinny, and I think that would look out of place on the model. I will have to experiment.
