henrywalker
How likely are any new models in finecast for grey knights? i originally thought none but they might bring a couple of the other hq's out with them. what do we think? RamrodMC
Doubt it. Not right at the start. There were no more rumoured models coming out for GKs, and the rumourmongers generally catch them weeks beforehand. In terms of a second wave, though, some time later in the year, I think the possibly exists. We're still missing a Mordrak and a Valeria. Possibly a Thawn (but not essential). Lord Typhon
In all honesty 99% of our characters are already done in one form or another; anything in terminator armour can be made from the plastic kit (grandmasters, brother captains, librarians with a bit of work, thawn, good ol' Mordie, Stern with a tiny bit of GS and same for Draigo), so that just leaves inquisitors...but most of them have models already or can be converted (dreadnought+old-guy-in-chair would probably be the hardest to make) <_< We can hope for finecast, but I'd not hold my breath. eadipus
little bit sad not to see Karamazov not on the list He is apparently a proper pain to pin being a 25 piece metal model (not to mention seriously heavy/chippable) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229982-finecast/#findComment-2761440 Share on other sites

jerry
Since they are changing have they made the RESIN more DURABLE or is it just like forgeworld crystal........warped with breakage when just breathed upon.......I see metal on Ebay going thru the roof with pricing now! chaplainmeliadus
Draig and Crowe to be replaced with resin from the 28th of this month? I find it hard to believe they'd go to the trouble of releasing a model just to shelve it a month later. RamrodMC
Why? All that is changing is the material. The sculpt will be the same, and in fact the rumours suggest they've gone with a specific resin that can be used in the same moulds as they've used for the metals. Nothing hard to believe about it at all. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229982-finecast/#findComment-2762902 Share on other sites

Calvinus
I think this is great news! I'm just jumping into GK and picked up the new terminators to start on with plans on some PAGK and Dreadknights and now I get my choice of 6 more models being released as resin  I know it's not a resculpt or a FW version or something out of the world but I have to admit I like how resin captures more detail than pewter and seems smoother. And to think, I almost bought a metal Coteaz and libby a few weeks back... Slyfox1990
I may behind the times but I know for a fact that in the past resin couldn't be used as it is potentially harmful when filed down. The dust being harmful if in-hailed. Has the GW stand point on this now change or is it a safer process now? RamrodMC
As for the "dangers" of resin, they've been massively exaggerated with regards to the resin used for miniatures. Yes, some types of synthetic resin (there are thousands of types) may be hazardous, but do you really think a company that produces leisure items would actually risk the lives of their customers? The resin used by Forge World is not dangerous to your health, only to your comfort. GW's resin is probably a plastic/resin hybrid, which will likely be equally safe. RedemptionNL
Any dust in large amounts is bad for your lungs; and the finer the dust, the higher the risk. Filing plastic isn't much safer than filing resin in that regard, resin is only a tad finer. But using a dust mask or using wet filing pretty much eliminates the problem. It's certainly not a substance like asbestos dust where besides the dust problem, the material itself can cause tumors. Slyfox1990
Fair enough. I was merely aware that previously the GW health and safety policy has meant that they could not sell resin. Seems odd that would suddenly change. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229982-finecast/#findComment-2763506 Share on other sites
RedemptionNL
Fair enough. I was merely away that previously the GW health and safety policy has meant that they could not sell resin. Seems odd that would suddenly change. Don't know where you got that from, but GW has sold numerous resin items over time. The Chapel of Sanctuary for instance, is a completely resin product. Not to mention that Forgeworld is owned by GW. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/229982-finecast/#findComment-2763514 Share on other sites

Slyfox1990
Can shed some light on some of the speculation on whether we are getting resin models or not - went into the store today to get some bits and asked about it ( Some of this is ofc already known but will repeat for simplicity ) 1. Are we getting resin models? Yes, large portions of the metal stock are being sold off without replacement in readiness for the release of resin models. 2. Why are we getting resin models? Rapidly increasing costs of metal mean that it will likely become more and more expensive to make and sell the models. To avoid costs sky rocketing they are moving over to resin. There will be a fixed increase of around £2 on many models to cover the swap but this will remain more stable as a price than metal would. 3. I mentioned that I thought there was a safety concern with FW resin models - hence why they could not be sold by GW. Why can they suddenly start selling resin now? I was right that health and safety meant that resin from FW could not be sold due to the potential hazards caused by the dust when filing. The models which are now being made for GW are a new polymer version of resin ( I don't know the exact details ) and are much safer.
