Airbrush: H&S Evolution vs Infinity

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm about to change my AB and I'm looking into the Harder & Steenbeck's.

I'm set on the "2 in 1" concept (thanks for the tip winterdyne)... but don't know whether to go for the evolution or the infinity (and there is like a +50% RRP difference <_< )

So... anyone know the differences (besides the possibility to lock the needle so it doesn't go all the way back)... and how much a difference they make?

Thanks!

I have both the Evo Silverline and Infinity CR Plus, so maybe I can help you.

I don't really use the button lock function much but it is nice to have the option at times. The different nozzle end cap on the infinity is nice to have but again not really essential. The best bit of the infinity extras was the adjustable trigger tension. For me, that alone was worth the extra.

I would definitely go for a CR Plus model, as the chrome is much more resilient than on the standard versions. As to whether the Infinity is worth the extra over the Evo? Well, part of that will come down to whether you can afford to get the Infinity, or see the options as a luxury. I'd rather have the optional extra bits available to me and hardly ever use them as opposed to not having them and regretting it later. Whichever one you go for, you should be able to reclaim a fair return if you decide to sell it on as long as you look after it. <_<

EDIT: I forgot to add, the both of the H&S are by far the easiest to strip down and keep clean. I've had Iwata's in the past and when they get clogged, those little bloody nozzles are a right pain to sort out, especially with the thin small threads that can be too easy to bugger up. The H&S have a great system, which can be stripped down in next to no time, cleaned and refitted. If it's easy to keep clean, you'll be more likely to keep it clean.

Thanks very much for the tips.

I think I'll settle for the evolution, 80 Euros is a lot of money difference right now...and I don't think I'll get all that much of a benefit... though the inifity are BEAUTIFUL.

As for your linky, it doesn't let me read it... says users only.

Again, thanks for the comment

One more thing to add.

DEFINITELY,DEFINITELY,DEFINITELY,DEFINITELY get the 2in1 set if possible. The 0.4mm nossle/needle kit and the 5ml paint cup in addition to the 0.15/0.2mm / 2ml cup kits give you the option of using it as a pseudo spray gun as well as a fine detail / blending tool. My Evo is the 2in1 Silverline kit, that together with the Infinity, give me all the options I need for any airbrush detail or coverage work. I tend to use the Evo as a base spray gun with either tamiya or Alclad lacquer paints, then move over to the Infinity for the detail work either with Tamiya or Reaper. :D

They should all give you zero problems, correct.

The standard Evo is a great airbrush, without all the frills. Point and squirt. The only adjustment you can do with it is adjusting the trigger pressure required for airflow. (All H&S dual action can do this) It also has a 0.2mm needle kit, which is a pretty good all rounder.

The CR Plus models are using a better chrome plating form what I can see, it's definitely more shiny and robust as a surface coating. They also have all the seals upgraded to Teflon instead of rubber, which is more useful when dealing with lacquer based paints. The non CR models all use the same coating from what I understand, but the Silverline does look "more silver" compared to the stock Evo. Pics of each are at the linky.

Have a look at the images, you should make out near the trigger on the evo silverline , a discoloration of the chrome plating. Bear in mind, this maybe related to a batch issue, rather than a CR / Non CR chrome issue, either way, the CR units are much more shiny!
