PH34RB0T
I was just wondering if it's feasible to run an army using only the Inquisition forces from the codex (i.e. no Grey Knights). I know it's possible, I'm just curious as to how strong of an army it would be. XaClocKWorKoX
depends what you fill it in with lots of plasma cannons for anti inf meltas or plas for vehicles ( if you dont like rolling for gets hot ) crusaders and pyskers for save roles and psyhic barrage two monkeys per squad. ( one for lascannons and the roll for the weapon/armor upgrade Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230077-inquisition-only-army/#findComment-2762910 Share on other sites
number6
I think you can make it work. I came up with an example army list a little while ago to "prove" the point. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230077-inquisition-only-army/#findComment-2762947 Share on other sites
Chengar Qordath
I think you can certainly make it work; however, getting the models for it might be complicated/exensive, since models for Death Cult, Crusaders, and a lot of the other options are expensive and/or limited. Of course, there's always conversions/proxying... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230077-inquisition-only-army/#findComment-2763301 Share on other sites
uberschveinen
I'm making one. Mostly for the visual aesthetic, and it's taken a hell of a lot of toning to keep what I wanted style-wise without making it unplayable. The list ought to do a lot of damage fast, but be really frail. So far it's played almost like Dark Eldar, though I've not nearly played enough games to really comment. The biggest problem is that it's just taking an eternity to even assemble the models. Probably my fault for making every single model have parts from at least eight different kits and a need for individual GS work. Current list looks like this: HQ + Inquisitor Coteaz [100] + Ordo Xenos Inquisitor with Rad Grenades [40] ELITES + Vindicaire Assassin [145] TROOPS + 5 Death Cult Assassins, 5 Crusaders = Razorback with Lascannon [230] + 6 Warrior Acolytes with Carapace, 3 Storm Bolters, 3 Plasmaguns, 6 Psykers = Inquisitorial Chimera [202] + 6 Warrior Acolytes with Carapace, 3 Storm Bolters, 3 Plasmaguns, 6 Psykers = Inquisitorial Chimera [202] + 6 Warrior Acolytes with Carapace, 3 Storm Bolters, 3 Plasmaguns, 6 Psykers = Inquisitorial Chimera [202] + 6 Warrior Acolytes with Carapace, 3 Storm Bolters, 3 Plasmaguns, 6 Psykers = Inquisitorial Chimera [202] FAST ATTACK + Stormraven with Hurricane Bolters and Psybolt Ammunition [255] HEAVY SUPPORT + Dreadnought with 2x twin-linked Autocannon and Psybolt Ammunition [135] + Dreadnought with 2x twin-linked Autocannon and Psybolt Ammunition [135] === Total 1848 Points === Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230077-inquisition-only-army/#findComment-2763358 Share on other sites
Oiad
Hmm, strictly speaking I'd probably consider Dreadnoughts and Stormravens to be 'Grey Knight' in origin if you were going for a fluffy non-GK army. Definitely makes it hard getting a variety of armoured firepower on the board. uberschveinen
The Dreadnought is really easy to counts-as. As long as whatever you're substituting has legs and heavy armour, it's dandy. I'm using a Hydra turret on de-Chaosed Defiler legs, but you could really do anything given the Inquisition is the place to go for archaic or fancy-tech war machines. Every other vehicle is even easier, because unless it's ultra-super-rare and only ever made by Techmarines, the Inquisitor in question has even more capacity to 'requisition' one than any Chapter Master. The only aspect that even needs to be explained away is the Psychic Pilot stuff. The Inquisitorial Warband style army has a near-indefinite ability to use perfectly-justifiable counts-as for everything short of the Grey Knights themselves, who are trickier to call anything but the obvious given their extremely specific rules. It seems to be the entire appeal for everyone I know playing it ,because it lets you just go nuts with converting everything in a way you just can't anywhere else. Freman Bloodglaive
Just grab a box of sentinels, model them up with full armour, slap on four autocannon and you're good to go. Oiad
Indeed, Sentinels (as Dreads) and Valkyries (as SRs) it is. Going with the 'requisition from chapters' story doesn't sit well with me personally. Chapters, especially the BAs or GKs are more likely to field their own forces in battle than 'hand over' key, front-line resources. As for psychic pilots, luckily SMs don't have a monopoly on psykers... BS4? Well Inquisitors do use professions with that kind of skill. Maybe you could argue they have training with armoured resources. Or targeting systems... uberschveinen
I don't much like the Sentinels. They're not nearly as imposing, and don't look anywhere near AV12. They're at least aesthetically problematic and potentially a real model-rules problem in tournaments, for those who play them. The Valkyrie, at the least, has comparable weaponry and AV. Freman Bloodglaive
I discovered that I have 8 of the 2nd edition heavy bolter marines in my bitz. I'm going to make them into purgation squads. maturin
I've started up a new topic which may be relevant to this discussion. Hopefully it'll be a more generalized discussion of how best to create a Radical army, and the strengths and weaknesses of particular builds. uberschveinen
Don't forget the armored version of the Sentinel, which is AV 12. I know it is, but it doesn't look it. I like my high-AV vehicles meaty, and an Inquisitorial Strike Force is the best opportunity you'll ever get to make an army exactly the way you want it.
