Buying a GK army need some help

Release

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I posted a similar thread on librarium but i'm still in need of advice despite some help there. I'm spending around 300 pounds on a new GK army and from that i'd like a viable tourne 1500 point list and a mess around 2k list if possible. If you guys could take a look at my purchases and give me any advice on whether to drop or pick up certain things to make a tourne list it would be greatly appreciated. Also as i'm intending to take this army to official warhammer world tournes does anyone know on their 40k restrictions for using named characters from the codex's as in can I legally run a crowe/purifier or drogo/paladin army?

HQ

1 x brotherhood captain who also fills in as a grandmaster (not sure what to give him weapons wise)

1 x librarian

1 x Inquisitor

Elites

1 x paladin squad - Falchons - psycannons

1 x vindicare assassin

1 x techmarine

1 x paladin squad - falchons - psycannons

Troops

1 x strike squad (5 man) Psycannon

1 x strike squad (5 man) Psycannon

1 x strike squad (5 man) psycannon

Fast

1 x 10 man interceptor squad - Psybolt ammo

Heavy

2 x dreadnoughts with autocannons

1 x dreadknight - Not sure on load out

Just a note really. it seems like a decent enough list of things. I personally would get at least one squad of termy troops but I can understand your not taking them, they are expensive. However, do not take falchions on your paladin squads. If you have to don't make it the sole choice for your army. Take the Halberds, your guys are better off having far fewer enemy's to attack them after you're done killing and they're free! I put one guy with falchions together just to mix up the wargear and cause they look cool but Halberds just make too much sense.

Also you might consider taking some purifiers, they are cc behemoths. And you can take more and fit more in a transport for the same points as terminators. Just some thoughts, your mileage may vary.

id say you need more troops, A LOT more. 3 slots is nice, but you have a total of 15 models for troops. doesn't take too much to kill 15 marines, same applies here (talking on a competative level here). i dont really play at 1.5k, more of a 2k and up man myself. id say somewhere in the 25 model range for purifiers or strike squads (whichever your making troops). dont know about any character restrictions, but strike squads will do just fine if there is. id go 10 man in a rhino, simply because i like to actually use my psycannons from the relative comfort of a fire point

Pretty much what KTE said.

Warhammer World lets you run named SCs (I've only encountered the 'No SCs' rule abroad whilst playing there).

The feeling I get is that a Paladin List will get kited to easily in comp. play. I myself run it for funsies and have done well with them but locally am limited to orks, DE, mehreens and some Nid players (they will give you the most headaches! BHB ftw here! :D )

The army I feel from the GK 'dex that will do best will probably a Crowe taxed Purifier List with 2-3 Psyfle Dreads or purgation squads with 2 psycannons in as outlined before by Number6. However I also feel that your standard C:DH oldschool GK army will still do well albeit it's a LOT harder to use and requires a certain flair and a lot of patience.

My 2 pence but just play what suits you and what you enjoy fielding as that counts for more than any math hammer (I still play old school GKs btw :) )

Idea was to use the 3 strike squads and then make the purifiers or paladins scoring units with the GM to bring up my troops count to like you said the 25 model or so mark that being said would you still add some more?

Thanks guys this is all helpful Brother would you say then if I can use Crowe at warhammer world in a competitive list drop 1 or 2 of the strike squads in favour of purifier squads as I do think points for points even with Crowe purifiers are alot better value, ideally id like them all but I do have a budget I should try to stick too :D

Your paladins should be made to create 5 unique models to utilize wound allocation. All falchions is not a good option. I'd run

Psycannon Daemonhammer

Psycannon Falchions

Falchions

Sword

Halberd

is an effective 325pt setup.

Are you going to mechanize your army? If not, things become more difficult especially with 5 man troop choices.

The dread knight with heavy incinerator, greatsword, and personal teleporter is an effective, albeit expensive setup.

Thanks for the tip Zagman im close to finalising my army in a tourne 1500 point list as a general rule what should I be taking transport wise? I was thinking 3-4 razorbacks with the lascannon and plasmagun upgrade and maybe a rhino thrown in for good measure for a 10 man strike squad? Is something like an SR too expensive for a 1500 point battle?

That depends on if you are going to try to run a crowe purifier list or not. If so, then you will likely be running 5 man purifier units in rhinos, or 10 man GKSS in rhinos. If you are running 5 man GKSS with a single psycannon, run a Razorback, preferrable with assault cannon and psybolt ammunition IMO. Or run them cheap with just the TLHB and psybolt ammunition.

An SR is a risky unit and all depends on what else you have in the list. It wouldn't be a bad option for paladin delivery.

Ok I have my rough tourne list as

HQ

Crowe - 150

Troops

4 x 5 man purifiers with psycannons/halberds - rhinos - 760

Elites

Vindicare assassin - 145

Fast

6 x interceptors - psybolt ammo- 176

Heavy

2 x dreadnoughts autocannons - 270

That list comes to 1501 what do you guys think?

Looks pretty good.

I'd drop one interceptor and the psybolt ammunition on the interceptors to purchase a hammer in each of the purifier squads, as well as a psycannon in those interceptors.

Correct me if I'm wrong, each of those purifier units have two psycannons?
