++The Badab War++

Recommended Posts

Well now, having been waring my eyeballs out reading the IA Badab war books and seeing great inspiration, i have decided to start a potentially expensive project.

The current plan i have is to build and paint a squad of marines from each chapter that played a major role in the war and then choose one to expand into a ful army. :)

First up is the Mantis Warriors (my favourite chapter from the war)

Veteran sergeant Sul -

This is a test mini, trying to get the colours right. I think he will fit fine with the squad although head swap may be in order.

The Tyrant waits patiently

Questions, C&C all welcome.

Cheers

Thanks, i'm looking into making this guy less shiny as i washed him with yellow ink, the gold studs on the shoulder guard need re done as the gold is clashing with th yellow. I'm writing a list of squads and planning ahead.

Bulit a Mantis sniper, possiby to be painted camo.

Yeah the scope on the pistol is just refference the chapters forte as ambush predators and snipers.

Great classic pose, i.e. not overdone, and the bit choice makes him unique in the squad.

The paint job reminds me of the old school Mantis warriors I grew up with, when the 1st Badab War mention was in my old Compendium!

If that is what you were going for, then Awesome!

A Blast from the past! :D

Very nice.

The sword is actually a spear tip from the dire avengers box, so yes its eldar. I think it fits with the samuri vibe i get fom the Mantis Warriors.

Working on Sgt Sul's back banner and prayer cloth. I'm putting some scaring into his face aswell.

Soon to be brother Si Quan - sniper.

Up close the models look great. Is that the viewing distance your going for?

I like the color change of the rivets on the shoulderpad, and the plastron looks good (I have trouble getting mine to look that good).

The back banner looks good but, the topper detracts from it I think. A simple top/cap would look better I think.

Overall very good.

awesome work so far! the green looks amazing! I had the very same plan for the badab project... do a squad of the coolest chapters and then settle for the color scheme that is most fun to paint! what weapon will the sniper get? modified bolter?

thanks for the support :D

Brother Si Quan (the sniper) is now armed and looking dangerous,

The Green - a simple mix of snot green and golden yellew (50/50), add white for highlights. It tends to look a little chalky until washed with yellow ink. A few coats of matt varnish reduces the sheen.

I only have touch ups really to do on these guys but the current hangover makes seem like a mountain...

I'll try to get a pic of the sniper up tonight.

cheers
