maturin
When a unit of full DCA is reduced to 50% strength from the original numbers, it looses 50% of its original output but when at 50% output it equals 100% of a mixed unit I dont see the benefit in employing 'ablative' wounds for this reason alone. I guess the next logical question would be would you rather have 1 Killy super-deathstar for a set price, or 2 half as capable units for the same price and spare change? I suppose that's the whole MSU debate in a nutshell. Your point about LD8 is well taken though. And I suspect this will only be an issue with small points games in light of the new FAQ and the 6 trip max. (though at least this armylist style and thread have been officially approved! :P. ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230168-the-inquisitors-guide-to-armybuilding-without-grey-knights/page/2/#findComment-2791559 Share on other sites
Brother Tual
Thats a matter for yourself mate. Alot will depend on the game size you play and also the local meta game and/or the composition of the rest of your list. Having two squads of DCA with mixed in wounds over one stronger unit brings in problems with needing multiple transports and coordinating the attack. It does give you two bites at the cherry should one transport drop early. I cant tell you which is best. My games are 1500 + and when playing DCA I run two full units (10). I cant transport 3 as transports cost 30% to 200% - rhino to LR - of the unit cost and I cant justify this extra cost. Not for the sake of adding in a few acolytes anyway. A 4 point model becomes very expensive.
