grey knghts extra bits

Recommended Posts

brothers I am shortly going to receive a box of Grey Knights and I was wondering with all the extra bits left over whether to mix and match with ordinary space marines ( I have many unbuilt marines)and therefore be able to bulk up the grey knights squads cheaply , feedback would be great as I do not wish to waste all those swords, halberds and storm bolters . :D

I am also thinking about doing this. It looks like it can work with a bit of planning. A key point to me looks to be taking falchions and splitting them into individual force swords, which would dramatically increase the number of force weapons to go around. The only real problems I see are the storm bolters (which could be converted from terminator ones or scratch built from bolters if you fancy it) and most importantly the heads, which are quite distinctive. It might be worth trying to pick up some grey knight heads off a bits site, or trying to mix in some older style heads (the beakie helmets would look pretty good IMO). I think if an opponent sees a marine with a force weapon and a storm bolter, with some fancy bits and a shiny paint job they will have no problem assuming that they are grey knights.

in an other post in the Inqusition sub-forum, I did give some insight on how to make it quite easilly, mixing DA veteran sprue and a PAGK

box. I haven't the time right now to retype everything, so just have a look on the last answer to this thread :

Oyumaru is your friend!

Tchezz.

I applaud people who take this approach to bulking out their armies.

I'm not down on GW and I do think the GK range is great, but I'm always reminded of the fact that all these options for chapter specific components are something that can be very expensive and in the past people have been forced to come up with creative solutions or just wing it when there wasn't an upgrade sprue available.

I'm reminded of the standard marines that you saw painted as Legion of the Damned in the 90s and wonder if you could get away with at least some of the marines in a modern GK army consisting of standard parts with the occasional GK components, some creative use of green stuff and a good paintjob.

The result would surely be a unique army that cut down on waste and saved the gamer some serious cash.
