Better a Servant of the Emperor...

Doghouse

Recommended Posts

I haven't really had a lot of time of late to do anything hobby related but have been playing around with a small GK force when ever I get a spare moment. The army is set at the time of the Second Founding, the Imperium has barely survived the Heresy and the forces of the Emperor are mopping up the last resistance of the Traitor Legions.

As Titan emerges from it's exile in the warp a new breed of space marine steps forward to bolster the defences of humanity as the great secret war begins in earnest.

Truescale Grey Knights

This is the first WIP model of the army and the leader of the GK element of the force. I've got twenty more of these guys currently built and ready for painting but for the time being I'm going to concentrate on my Castellan Crowe proxy.

There was a number of approaches that I could have taken with these guys but to be honest I took the simplest route when making the torsos. I originally started sculpting the torsos on each of them from scratch but to be honest this was just dragging things out and I was rapidly losing interest in them. So I decided to go back to the drawing board and settled for just adapting the terminator torso slightly. The result was twenty one rather nice looking models that are currently sat on my work table.

The design also serves another purpose setting them apart slightly from the modern GKs, plus I think it looks pretty cool. (The storm bolter barrels will be drilled out later. :tu: )

Here is the first one that I have started painting, pictures aren't great but I'll try and sort that out later.

The Inquisitor's Shuttle

Having recently acquired a rather nice and rather large sheet of plastic card for free it is now possible for me to make proper truescale vehicles. Whilst I have considered a truescale Storm Raven to go with the truescale Land Raider I'm working on I decided that it'd probably be best to make it from scratch rather than try and make a regular kit bigger.

So to get around this I decided to make the regular kit into a warp capable shuttle for the Inquisitor and his men that will be accompanying the GKs.

This is a pretty simple conversion, it's basically a stretched storm raven with the engines from a valkyrie slapped on top.

Why does he have a back pack, since he appears to be in Terminator armor?

Because he's not in terminator armour. Doghouse is modeling truescale grey knights. The test mini is a grey knight in power armour.

Cheers guys! :D

Dark Apostle Thirst: Yeah this is kind of a cop out on my part because I'm relying much more on the general build of the terminator than I normally do. Normally I completely sculpt the torso but I decided to settle on a much simpler method in order to get the bulk of the force done rather quickly.

I'll be adding the technique to my Actual Scale Truescale marines log in the tutorial section soon as to be honest this is by far the easiest way of making truescale marines.

daemonclaw: Yeah I'll put some shots up later for you mate. :tu:

Just a quick update.

Like I say I have the bulk of the marines built now but am saving them for a proper painted group shot rather than just chuck them up piece meal.

Here's a couple of them to keep people interested (I hope) in the progress of the force.

Like I say this is a much simpler technique as I normally go the whole hog bulking out regular marine arms and doing a lot more sculpting. These guys are really quick to knock out so hopefully I'll be able to put together an army in no time.

The Inquisitor

To bolster the GKs and bulk the force out I'm using the Coteaz rules to add former member of the Imperial Army that were present during the defence of Terra. These seasoned veterans have faced the forces of the warp and the few that survived and remained sane have been drafted into the retinue of my yet un-named Inquisitor Coteaz proxy.

Lastly here's a quick scale shot to compare the size of these power armoured GK's to a warrior and a regular plastic marine.

Just begun blending the force sword colouring and got a bit more done to the Castellan.

Cheers guys! ;)

The orange marine is one of my Summoners marines that I started to revamp a while back, got bigger and better plans for them now though so once the GKs are out of the way there will be more concerning them.

The storm raven hull was lengthened by 61mm, :)

The Summoners??? Dang thats an awesome Chapter name!!!!!! One can only guess at what they may specialise in :tu: . Would you not consider lengthening it anymore? I very recently finally decided to et me a Storm Raven & have a bash at converting one of these bad boys but I wanted to lengthen it to give it a real heavy troop transporter look. You got any more plans to add anything else to it?

Cheers guys! :)

Dorns padawan: The Summoners were created to deal with chapters that over stepped their mandate, a lot like the Minotaurs. They're basically are an unpleasant bunch that worship the Emperor as a god and believe that they should answer only to the High Lords of Terra which they see as the voice of the Emperor himself.

I haven't really thought about making the shuttle much bigger mainly because it only needs to house a dozen Inquisitorial Storm Troopers. I do like the idea of a massive assault vehicle.

I have recently acquired a huge honking great sheet of plasticard and am working on a proper truescale land raider for these guys so I may add something along the lines of what you're describing later.

Maybe a truescale thunder hawk? :D

Pasta: I will do my best mate. ;)

Just a quick update.

Started on the first squad member as a test to see how quickly I can get them painted. I've started off with a base coat of bolt gun metal and have gone over this with Badab Black. Next I'll begin a series of Bolt Gun metal washes after cleaning the areas up that aren't going to be silver.

Yeah it is a real beast at the moment. I've scaled up the original plastic model and scratch built an MDF mock up that I'll be using as a guide. If it works I'll be adding loads of vehicles like rhinos and ideally a scaled up storm raven to go with them.

The Summoners are a creation of my own. They originally started off life back in 3rd edition before I made them into a traitor chapter which I was never really happy with so decided to scrap that idea for fifth edition and go back to the original plan of being loyalist in the extreme.

I think a truescale t-hawk would be pretty cool but completely insane as well. :D

Based on my Land Raider experiment though a Storm Raven is completely plausible.
