Better a Servant of the Emperor...

Doghouse

Recommended Posts

Thanks guys. :)

Batu: I did try some packs instead of the power armoured one but couldn't really get a look that I liked. Fortunately I do have a load of the beret heads so will be adding them as I really like the look.

MagicMan: I'm not too sure what to do with the Jokaero to be honest. If they had the finecast ones out I'd snap them up but the metals are direct only as far as I know now. As it stands I am a massive fan of Jokaero and the chance to have one in the army would be brilliant, I've got a grynx somewhere as well that I'd like to include in some capacity at some point as well (maybe as a wound marker or something). I originally considered a squat but the profile doesn't really work so am thinking of chucking a plastic sqaut conversion in a henchman's squad, a robot or other small alien would be pretty cool as a replacement Jokaero though.

Yup, Berets & Power armour, winning combination and I should know ^_^

Awesome stuff though Doghouse, those True-scaled GK are massive and the whole theme looks to be coming together nicely.

One demands more!

Thanks mate! :D

Here's a bit more.

It dawned on me that it's going to be tricky coming up for a reason as to why the Coteaz rules have an eagle but this guy doesn't. I toyed around with a few ideas but settled for this simple solution in the end.

Been doing a bit of a rethink concerning the GKs as well. I've got a new technique that I've come up with for making the back packs a little better because to be honest they look kinda small on these. It means the existing models will need a bit of a reworking but it should be worth it in the long run.

Thanks mate! :P

Bit more of an update.

Started on what will be a proper Inquisitorial retinue rather than the warriors of the other squads. This first guy would actually make a great IG colonel and is a very simple conversion using the head from the Empire Great Swords kit.

This next guy is basically made up from left over parts. I've bulked out a plastic wfb chaos warrior head and come up with a great solution at the same time as how to make the power armoured guys looks a little less marine like as well using the rebreather pack from the FW renegades as a power pack.

Here's a group shot of what will be the freak show.

Go freak show! I am tempted to do a Coteaz-army just to be able to do what you do now; take all the cool models and paint them, and still be able to use them =)

Yeah that's the real attraction of the Inquisition section of the GK book for me, you can chuck an army together using all the old bits you have lying around. Or you can get hold of all the cool minis that you normally wouldn't buy and throw them in there as well.

Indeed. I was about to get the old Inq with Retinue box yesterday in the shop, but stayed my hand and got A Thousand Sons, The First Heretic and Prospero Burns instead =) Gotta keep oneself on track.

I really like the IG looking guy Doghouse, looks a right proper mean :) !! The FW renegade power pack looks awesome & certainly looks wicked in place of the SM power packs - gives the more less superhuman feel about them & also makes them look like non Astartes PA. Where did that eagle come from? Is it GW or FW?

Nathanael: Yeah know that feeling mate! :whistling:

Dorns Padawan: Thanks mate. The eagle comes with the Coteaz model but it's on his left arm which is out stretched, I figured that I may as well use it on a separate base. Basically he uses it as a shooting attack in the codex.

Quite update

I've finally got a look to these guys that I'm happy with now that is sort of marine like but different enough for me to get away with using them as humans. This wip guy has an old school Ork plasma gun courtesy of Retrograde which I'm a big fan of because they are great looking guns.

Basically I've just removed the back pack and replaced it with the fw chaos renegade rebreather like I did with the guy above. I'm really liking this guy so far and he sort of has a gears of war vibe going on. The paint job on these guys is a little messy to be honest but I'm having fun with them and can clean them up later. Luckily I have enough of the renegade torsos knocking about so that I can do the whole squad like this and am seriously tempted to make some more.

wow very impressive stuff this is a very enjoyable thread to look through...how did you do the stormtroopers on the first page with the catachan heads? where did the torsos arms and legs come from? thanks

Cheers mate. :)

The henchmen storm troopers are made from the original plastic second edition storm troopers. You can still find them on places like ebay from time to time but generally they can be a little on the expensive side. Very nice models though even by today's standards.

Bit of an update with some dodgy pictures that have come out a little too dark but I'll stick some better ones up later.

Got the second pack on and am now in the process of cleaning up the paint work on both models. Still need to blend in some of the harsher areas where I was just slapping the paint on but they should look quite nice when finished.

I came across this next guy sat in the bottom of a box gathering dust and looking a little sorry for himself. Back in the days of Inquisitor I bought the rule book that came with eisnehorn and some ex-guard guy. At the time the models were incredibly hard to come by so in order to finish my little band of adventurers I ended up diving into the bits box. I built the eisenhorn model pretty much as it came in the box, the guard got converted into an Arbite Investigator and they were joined by an Inquisitor scale Tau firewarrior in a stealth suit along with a gun drone and this brute.

I used the ghazghkull thraka model as the basis of this monster and turned him into an arco-servitor to back my little gang up. The arms are currently held on with blue tak at the moment but I'm considering revamping the model, slapping him on a larger base and turning him into a dreadnought proxy. This is just ifs and maybes at the moment though as he may be a tad too small.

He reminds me of the Chrono-Gladiator. For a brief secone I had thought you'd used him as a basis for the dreadnought proxy.

The henchmen are coming along nicely too. Keep it up, brother. :)

Yeah they did do something similar with the Chrono-gladiator some time after I made this guy which made me smile at the time. What I'm thinking is maybe mounting him on a dreadnought base and making an adept to go with him on the base that is feeding him orders.

I'd need to dreadnoughtify the gun a bit more and maybe bulk him out a little more but it'll give the army a nice little adeptus mechanicus presence in the force and steer the army more towards the freak show look I want. Worst comes to worst I'm chucking together a truescale GK dreadnought that I can swap in if my opponent gets funny with me about it.

I'll be knocking up some recognition sheets, mini-codex style, that I can give to opponents to stop them standing there scratching their heads as to what is what. :)

As the army is just really intended for friendly games it shouldn't cause too many problems with any luck.

Got a bit more done now with the back packs swapped over so just have to clean up the paint job and get them based now.

Still plugging away with the Arco-Servitor idea and have begun cleaning up the GS work and rebuilding the damaged areas of the model

Lastly I found one of my old Mordheim Witch Hunters warband that I'm going to clean up and try to include in the freak show retinue.

love the henchman

They have now the real human and veteran soldier look, and they will be certainly contrasting nicly with the GK. Especially I like the plasma gun man and his markings.

Thanks mate. ;)

Yeah they are starting to come together nicely now and I'm really enjoying working on each of them in turn. I think once the squad is complete it should look really nice and unusual.

Hopefully I've got a couple more of the old school plasma guns coming in the post in a few weeks thanks to one of the guys over on the ammobunker forums so will hopefully be adding a few more of them into a second smaller squad at some point. I've got another eight of these MK IIs so I might have to have a bash at putting together a second squad and chuck in the astropath model from the imperial advisors set as a psyker to give them a bit more flavour.

The violent shaking of the Storm Herald class assault shuttle's blackened hull came to an abrupt halt as the craft broke through into the planet's upper atmosphere and began it's final approach. Previously fixed weapons began to cycle through system checks to prepare their combat readiness, the crew weren't expecting a fight but Arwan, the vessel's co-pilot, always maintained it's better to be safe than sorry.

The power armoured troopers on board began unbuckling their descent harnesses, servos whining in protest as they stretched to ensure the suits were in good working order. Behind the leering skull painted on the front of his battered black helmet Gerrick grimaced in frustration as the auto-reactive shoulder plate seized up. Sergeant Horpa took two steps before slamming his fist into the malfunctioning plate flecking the paint on both the pad and his gauntlet. Gerrick grunted with approval as the shoulder pad came free and he began running through his weapon checks.

It had been eleven years since the Warmaster had finally been defeated at the siege of Terra. The brief moment of elation at their victory had been short lived. The Imperium of man lay in ruins with the fate of the Emperor himself unknown to all but the most senior of officials. Stories of his death had been played down with waves of propaganda and misdirection. The age of Imperial Truth had been replaced with deceit and half truths in the wake of a new crusade lead by the Primarchs to drive the traitors from their trenches and fortifications, to shatter their bastions and seek out and destroy every element of corruption that remained.

Renis casually lit a lo stick as he sat checking the power cells on his plasma gun.

"So what's the plan boss, another combat drop?" He mumbled as he blew smoke into the air through gritted teeth not taking his eyes off his beloved weapon that hummed in his free hand.

"I can only tell you what I know Renis," Horpa said as he adjusted his crimson beret so that it sat firmly on his head "we're to meet up with a specialist..."

"A space marine?" Haspen groaned interupting the sergeant "We wouldn't be in this fething mess if it wasn't for them."

"Watch your tongue Corporal," Horpa snapped drawing the attention of all those within ear shot. These men had fought side by on the line during the defence of the Lions Gate, they had forged bonds of brother hood that far exceeded rank and such an outburst served only to focus their attention. If was enough to get Horpa worried then it had to be big. "we'll also be liaising with Sergeant Morgan and the 53rd Kaspan recon." Horpa let a brief smile slip "So you better brush up on your card skills unless you want to end up loosing a months rations again to him, eh Renis." The tension broke as the squad began to playfully tease the plasma gunner.

"You're lucky he let you walk away with your clothes after that last game on Merant Renis" Gerrick shouted down the cabin as they others, including Renis, began laughing at his misfortune.

The lighting in the cabin changed from a pale green to red indicating that they were on final approach. The laughter stopped as they hurriedly donned their helmets stepping into line towards the rear doors. None of them knew what waited for them at the muster but they would face it together as brothers.

Maybe instead of the Mark II helmets you could use the Forgeworld Cadian respirator helmets? They'd be more appropraitely-sized for humans and they do look incredibly badass. Otherwise, loving the work here, those power-armoured henchmen are absolutely awesome.

Cheers guys!

Dark link: I did try the cadian rebreather head but the problem was that I only had a few I'd have to buy more of them. :)

Mr Malevolent: I must admit having tried to rework this guy I'm tempted to buy the finecast version and start over.

Got a few bits done today but not a lot. Still need the high lighting and shading but I've started to paint the guns red to tie them in a little more with the Inquisitor.

As it stands I'm going to be using three troops choices at best so am thinking of using the remaining Mk IIs that I have to make two small three main Henchman Warbands, one with all flamers and one with all meltas.

I gotta say Doghouse I love that green. Any specifics or maybe even.... a tutorial if you wouldn't mind? I've been on the fence to either strip my Salamanders and make them Ultramarines or start over and try a new way of painting the green. I seem to be attracted that green you've come up with like a moth to a bright flame.
