Coverfire
A little while ago I posted that there would be a friendly 1k tournament at my local gaming club. Originally it was no FOC but that was changed to using the standard FOC. I went with the following list. Rune Priest #1 - Chooser, Living Lightning, Jaws of the World Wolf Rune Priest #2 - Living Lightning, Murderous Hurricane Grey Hunters Pack #1 (8) - Meltagun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard, Rhino Grey Hunters Pack #2 (8) - Meltagun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard, Rhino Long Fangs Pack #1 (6) - x2 Lascannons, x3 Missile Launchers, Razorback Long Fangs Pack #2 (6) - x2 Lascannons, x3 Missile Launchers, Razorback The tournament was only four games between 6 players. Tau, Sisters of Battle, Imperial Guard, Space Marines, Eldar, and of course my Space Wolves. I did write up a battle report but I forgot to take my camera so there is no visual aides to go along with it. Round 1 was against a horde Guard army, maybe 80+ models, no vehicles except 2 sentinels, he had 1 autocannon gun team, 1 lascannon gun team and took Marbo. The mission was objectives but each turn they moved 2D6" in a random direction. I was nailing my coversaves so his lascannon did almost nothing throughout the entire game. I forced his autocannon gun team off the table by turn three. Marbo killed three long fangs and a Grey Hunter before getting hacked to pieces. The Sentinels did concern me but didn't manage to do any damage to me. My Long Fangs and Rune Priest Ranged the Guardsmen off the table and a last player turn tank shock gave me 2 objectives to 0. Giving me a win and a bonus point for not losing a troop unit. Round 2. Space Marines. Kill point mission with a table setup as 24" deployment on each side leaving a corridor down the middle. Night fighting was in effect for the entire game. A bonus point if the highest costing unit/model was still alive at the end of the game. For me that was a Long Fangs Pack. For my opponent it was a Jump Pack squad. My opponent split his force so I set up in one corner. I forced his closest units to hide while the rest of his force had to travel the length of the board. I patiently waited him out before luring his dreadnought out with the promise of an easy kill point from my razorback (which he only managed to immobilise and destroy the heavybolter) before hammering it with my two Long Fangs pack after two rounds of firing. On the other flank, his jump pack squad lead with a chaplin managed to get within range of my 2nd razorback. His intentions were to hit me with that squad and follw up with two tactical squads but it didn't work for him. he assaulted my 2nd razorback stunning it and in the next turn I disembarked a Grey Hunters Pack with Rune Priest, cast Murderous Hurricane and fired bolt pistols and charged obliterating his key unit. My other Priest managed to immobilise one of his Rhinos which was now to far away to threaten me. His other tactical squad disembarked, and fired and assaulted my slightly depleted Grey Hunter Pack but this time I remembered my Wolf Standard and drew the combat. My 2nd Grey Hunter Pack disembarked and reinforced the 1st pack wiping out the tactical squad. Space Wolves - Major Win (double opponents score), 4 Kps - 0 kps, Bonus point for Long Fang pack still being alive at end of the game. Round 3 - Eldar - I haven't played Eldar since 2nd Edition.... Mision. All units are scoring. Get as many units within 12" of the centre point of the table. Mission special: Each player turn a barrage comes down scatter 4D6" from the centre of the table (from a 3rd party otherwise unknown) Str 6 AP 6 large blast marker. Bonus point for not losing any models to the barrage. Despite my previous successes I was starting to get very nervous. This is the first game where I won the roll to start and I felt I needed to start in this battle. The battle field was quite open so I felt I could take advantage of my range early on. My Razorbacks pounded his Dire Avengers trying to force them to run but they shook it off. My Long Fangs drop his war walker before it could menace me. My Rune Priests hounded his Dark Reapers but they also recovered from the opening onslaught. I didn't move much until turn 4 getting enough in the scoring zone to give me the win. It was decided that an immobilised vehicle should could as half a point and I had both of my Rhinos immbolilised (one while trying to tank shock the last few dire avengers out of the scoring zone. Space Wolves Win 4 points to 3.5. Bonus point for not losing anything to the barrage. Round 4. Sisters of Battle - Mission type Assassination. Bonus kept your chosen HQ unit alive. This battle looked good on paper. The deployment zone was corners, setting up within 12" of the table edge. Mission special was that you could only place 1 HQ and 2 Troop choices and the rest went into reserves. He hid his command unit behind hills and out of line of sight. I took advantage of my range with Living Lightning and destroyed the rhino of one of the oncoming Sisters. When my Long Fangs with Razorback arrived they set up to keep those battle sisters hugging the terrain eventually wiping them out. Much the same happened on the other flank as I received the rest of my forces. and when I destroyed the missile launcher on one of his 2 executioners he had given up interest. but it was now turn 6. my Rune Priest was down 1 wounds thanks to perils. His HQ was safe and sound. He had a squad of Battle sisters to scared to move into my firing line, an executioner out of range and his command squad. I had lost my two rhinos, a long fangs pack and both Rune Priests had lost a wound to perils. we were in a stale mate. We tried to decide on the best way to move forward but he didn't want to throw away his position and I had the advantage. So we tallied Kill points, even, tournament score points even. we were even all over. in fact if he bested me somewhere (like my Rune Priest being down a wound) I bested him some other way such as being in the better position or having killed more points than him, I didn't want to force a game where we had to go on and on because I would eventually kill myself with perils of the warp. We diced off... He rolled a 4 and I got a 6 Space Wolves win Sisters second Eldar Third Imperial Guard forth Tau fifth Space Marines sixth Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/230307-friendly-1k-tournament/ Share on other sites
